The following is a list of events relating to television in Ireland from 2024. Events January * 1 January – RTÉ One's New Year's Eve celebrations include a special edition of ''The Late Late Show'' at 10.15pm featuring a line up of guests including Midge Ure, Wheatus, The Tumbling Paddies and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. This is followed by ''The New Year's Eve Countdown Concert'' from Dublin Castle featuring Picture This and presented by Anna Geary. ''The Late Late Show'' is watched by an audience of 531,000 viewers, while viewers take to social media to comment on the lack of a presenter to ring in the New Year during the coverage of ''The New Year's Eve Countdown'', which instead sees Picture This playing one of their songs up until ten seconds to midnight, followed by an onscreen countdown. * 5 January – ** The 2018 film '' Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!'' replaces ''The Late Late Show'' at 9.35pm on RTÉ One as the talk show takes a one week break after airing on New Ye ... David Holmes (musician)
David Holmes (born 25 February 1969) is a Northern Irish musician and composer. He worked as a DJ before releasing several solo albums that have incorporated elements of trip hop, big beat, electronic and rock. In the late 1990s, he also began composing film scores, establishing a long-standing collaboration with director Steven Soderbergh that includes ''Out of Sight'' (1998) and the ''Ocean's'' trilogy. Holmes is currently a member of the band Unloved, whose music has been used extensively in the television series '' Killing Eve'', for which Holmes is also a composer. He has remixed songs for numerous artists and produced albums for Primal Scream. Career Holmes began DJing in Belfast from the age of 15. His first hit was the 1992 track "De Niro" as the Disco Evangelists, with Ashley Beedle and Lindsay Edwards (who later joined Tin Tin Out). Davy Russell
Davy Russell (born 27 June 1979) is a retired Irish National Hunt jockey. He was Irish jump racing Champion Jockey three times, and won the Grand National (twice), the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris. Childhood and amateur career Russell was born David Niall Russell, the second youngest of six children, and raised on the farm of his parents Jerry and Phyllis Russell in Youghal, County Cork, Ireland . His father owned a few racehorses and the family walked puppies for the local hunt. As a child Russell’s passions were riding his pony, hurling, and helping his father with his horses. Russell rode for four years as an amateur in point-to-points in Ireland, winning his first race in February 1999. During this period he also went hunting and worked in a fish factory. Dancing With The Stars (Irish TV Series)
''Dancing with the Stars'' is an Irish reality television series, airing on RTÉ One that started on 8 January 2017, and is currently hosted by Jennifer Zamparelli and Doireann Garrihy. The show is based on the original UK version, '' Strictly Come Dancing'' and is part of the ''Dancing with the Stars'' franchise. The judging panel consists of Arthur Gourounlian, Loraine Barry and Brian Redmond. and formerly Julian Benson from seasons 1–4. Production In August 2016, it was confirmed that RTÉ One would broadcast an Irish version of ''Dancing with the Stars'', which would replace the successful '' The Voice of Ireland'', which was cancelled in order for the broadcaster to order the new show. Laura Nolan
Laura Nolan (born 31 May 1994) is an Irish ballroom dancer and choreographer. Early life Nolan was born in Lucan in Dublin. She is trained in ballroom, latin and ballet dancing. Professional career Nolan first began dancing competitively at the age of five when she competed in the All Ireland Championships in June 1999 with her first partner, Luca Mastropietro. The couple reached the quarterfinals of their first championship. From 2009 to 2013, Nolan danced with English dancer, Stanislav Wakeham. From 2015 to 2019, Nolan danced with Italian dancer, Alessandro Bosco. In 2018 they finished in first place in the World Open Adult Standard at the Bacau Dance Open tournament. Nolan was a finalist in the Under 21 World Championship, placing amongst the top ten in the world. In 2018, she and Bosco ranked fifth in the World Open. Conan O'Brien
Conan Christopher O'Brien (born April 18, 1963) is an American television host, comedian, writer, and producer. He is best known for having hosted late-night talk shows for almost 28 years, beginning with '' Late Night with Conan O'Brien'' (1993–2009) and '' The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien'' (2009–2010) on the NBC television network, and '' Conan'' (2010–2021) on the cable channel TBS. 2023 Six Nations Championship
The 2023 Six Nations Championship (known as the Guinness Six Nations for sponsorship reasons) was the 24th Six Nations Championship, an annual rugby union competition contested by the national teams of England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. It was the 129th edition of the competition (including all its previous incarnations as the Home Nations Championship and Five Nations Championship). France entered the tournament as defending champions, having won the Grand Slam in 2022. Ireland won the tournament for a 15th time, along with a 13th Triple Crown and a fourth Grand Slam; it was also the first time they won the title in Dublin. In beating England in their final game on 18 March, Ireland completed a full set of consecutive victories over all the other tier-one international sides. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. The association also promotes Irish music and dance, as well as the Irish language. As of 2014, the organisation had over 500,000 members worldwide, and declared total revenues of €65.6 million in 2017. The Games Administration Committee (GAC) of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) governing bodies organise the fixture list of Gaelic games within a GAA county or provincial councils. 2023 Rugby World Cup
The 2023 Rugby World Cup is scheduled to be the tenth men's Rugby World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for men's rugby union teams. It is scheduled to take place in France from 8 September to 28 October 2023 in nine venues across the country. The opening match and final will take place at the Stade de France, in the commune of Saint-Denis, north of Paris. The tournament will take place in the bicentenary year of the "invention" of the sport by William Webb Ellis. Originally, the tournament was scheduled to last the typical six weeks; however, on 23 February 2021, World Rugby announced an additional week to accommodate the additional rest day requirement for player welfare. This means that teams will have a minimum of five rest days for all matches, optimising recovery and preparation for the tournament. Patrick Kielty
Patrick Kielty (born 31 January 1971) is a Northern Irish comedian and television personality. Background Kielty was born in County Down, Northern Ireland, and grew up in the village of Dundrum. He is one of three sons born to the businessman John "Jack" Kielty, who was shot dead on 25 January 1988 by the Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF), a cover name used by loyalist paramilitary group the Ulster Defence Association (UDA). John Kielty was to have been a key witness in Central Television's defence of a libel action brought by Jim Craig, who was suing the television company over a broadcast of ''The Cook Report'' which connected him to racketeering, and is said to have ordered John Kielty's murder. BP Fallon
Bernard Patrick Fallon (born 24 August 1946), known as BP Fallon, is an Irish DJ, author, photographer, and musician. He lives in Austin, Texas. Life At a young age Fallon became a personality and broadcaster in Ireland, later moving on to music journalism and photography. In the late 1960s Fallon moved to London to pursue his journalism career. In March 1969 he scored a coup - an interview with John Lennon at the 'bed-in' in Amsterdam - which was published in the Melody Maker. This led to a further Lennon interview and a job at Apple Records working with publicist Derek Taylor. In 1970 he appeared on ''Top of the Pops'' miming the tambourine in John Lennon's performance of "Instant Karma!". In an alternate clip, Fallon was shown miming the bass guitar.
