Africanews (styled as africanews) is a 24/7 pan-African multilingual news network located in Lyon, France, previously headquartered in Pointe-Noire, Republic of the Congo. Akua Donkor
Akua Donkor (February 1952 – 28 October 2024) was a Ghanaian farmer and politician. She was the founder and leader of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP). Early life Akua Donkor was born in February 1952 and hailed from Ejuratia in the Afigya Kwabre District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana (then the Gold Coast). She was a Cocoa farmer by profession and was not known to have had any formal education. Personal life Akua Donkor birthed a daughter who goes by the name Ama Serwaa Bonsu. Politics Akua Donkor was initially an assembly woman for Heman electoral area in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region. 2012 election She applied to contest as an independent candidate in the 2012 election to become president of Ghana but was disqualified by the Electoral Commission on accounts of not meeting the requirements set for the election. The Ghana Freedom Party is a party founded by Akua Donkor, a farmer. Disqualifications Akua Donkor was disqualified by the Electoral Commission of Ghana from contesting the Ghanaian presidential election, 2012 as an independent candidate. This was due to irregularities on the registration documents for the election. Akua Donkor who was this time the party's candidate for the Ghanaian presidential election, 2016 was again disqualified in October 2016. She appeared to back the incumbent president at the time, John Mahama when her candidacy was rejected by the Electoral Commission. The party headquarters was sited at Kabu, which is a village in the Akwapim North Municipality of the Eastern Region of Ghana. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey (born 8 February 1963) is a Ghanaian politician, diplomat and lawyer who has served as the seventh secretary-general of the Commonwealth of Nations since 1 April 2025.
