2024 FIDE Circuit
The 2024 FIDE Circuit is a system comprising the top chess tournaments in 2024, which serves as a qualification path for the Candidates Tournament 2026. Players receive points based on their performance and the strength of the tournament. A player's final Circuit score is the sum of their seven best results of the year. The winner of the Circuit qualifies for the Candidates Tournament 2026. Tournament eligibility A FIDE-rated individual standard tournament is eligible for the Circuit if it meets the following criteria: # Finish between 1 January 2024 and 15 December 2024. # Has at least 8 players. # Has at least 7 rounds (4 rounds for knockout events). # The 8 highest-rated players have an average standard rating of at least 2550 at the start of tournament. A chess tournament is a series of chess games played competitively to determine a winning individual or team. Since the first international chess tournament in London, 1851, chess tournaments have become the standard form of chess competition among serious players. Today, the most recognized chess tournaments for individual competition include the Linares chess tournament (now defunct) and the Tata Steel chess tournament. The largest team chess tournament is the Chess Olympiad, in which players compete for their country's team in the same fashion as the Olympic Games. Stamatis Kourkoulos-Arditis (born 7 June 1998) is a Greek chess grandmaster. He is ranked 13th best player in Greece and his highest rating was 2553 (in April 2023). He won the 2019 Greek Championship. Fagernes
is a town in Nord-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The town is the administrative centre of the municipality as well as the largest urban/commercial centre for the Valdres region. It is located just northwest of the village of Leira and about south of the village of Skrautvål. The town has a population (2021) of 1,951 and a population density of . The Reykjavik Open is an annual chess tournament that takes place in the capital city of Iceland. It was held every two years up to 2008, currently it runs annually. The first edition was held in 1964 and was won by Mikhail Tal with a score of 12.5 points out of 13. The tournament is currently played with the Swiss system, while from 1964 to 1980 and in 1992 it was a round-robin tournament. Seyyed Mohammad Amin Tabatabaei (born 5 February 2001) is an Iranian chess grandmaster (2018). Chess career Born in 2001, Tabatabaei earned his international master (IM) title in 2015 and was awarded his grandmaster (GM) title by FIDE in April 2018. In February 2018, he participated in the Aeroflot Open. He finished seventeenth out of ninety-two, scoring 5½/9 (+5–3=1), earning an additional GM norm in the process. The Aeroflot Open is an annual open chess tournament played in Moscow and sponsored by the airline Aeroflot.
