2024 FAI Cup Final
The 2024 FAI Cup Final, known as the 2024 Sports Direct FAI Cup Final for sponsorship reasons, was the final match of the 2024 FAI Cup, the national association football cup of the Republic of Ireland. The match took place on Sunday 10 November 2024 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, between Drogheda United F.C., Drogheda United and Derry City F.C., Derry City. 2024 FAI Cup
The 2024 FAI Cup, known as the Sports Direct FAI Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 104th edition of the Republic of Ireland's primary national cup competition. It featured teams from the League of Ireland Premier Division and the First Division, as well as teams from the regional leagues of the Republic of Ireland football league system. Drogheda United defeated Derry City in the final, winning their first FAI Cup since 2005. As winners, Drogheda United qualified for the second qualifying round of the 2025–26 UEFA Conference League. St Patrick's Athletic were defending champions, but were eliminated by Derry City in the second round. The competition format for this season was altered slightly, with no qualifying rounds. The preliminary round, traditionally held before the first round, was merged with the first round of the competition. David Webster (footballer)
David Webster (born 7 April 1990) is an Irish former professional footballer that played in the League of Ireland for Bray Wanderers (over two spells), Shamrock Rovers, Waterford, St Patrick's Athletic, Finn Harps and Drogheda United. Club career Bray Wanderers Webster came through Bray Wanderers youth setup and signed a contract with Eddie Gormley's first team squad in February 2008 whilst still playing for the reserve side in the A Championship. His first senior appearance for the club came on 5 May 2008 when he came on as a substitute for Paddy Kavanagh with 9 minutes left of a 1–0 win over Shamrock Rovers at the Carlisle Grounds in the League Cup. Brian Maher (footballer)
Brian Philip Maher (born 1 November 2000) is an Irish footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for League of Ireland Premier Division club Derry City. He previously played for St Patrick's Athletic and Bray Wanderers. Early life Maher was born in Dublin in 2000 and played for local clubs Raheny United and St Kevin's Boys in Dublin at underage level before signing for St Patrick's Athletic in 2016. Club career Maher joined St Patrick's Athletic's under-17 side in 2016 and signed his first contract for the club in 2018, although never made a senior league appearance for the club and left to join Bray Wanderers in 2020, initially as a loan move, but then made permanent later that year. Kevin Doherty (footballer)
Kevin Doherty (born 18 April 1980) is an Irish association football coach and former professional player who is the manager of League of Ireland Premier Division club Drogheda United. He was the manager of Shelbourne from December 2014 until June 2016. As a player Doherty was a powerful centre-back, who was named FAI School's International Player of the Year in 1998. He was transferred from Home Farm Everton to Liverpool FC in the same year and played for the Premier League club's youth and reserve teams, as well as for the Republic of Ireland under-18 team. Gary Richard Deegan (born 28 September 1987) is an Irish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Beginning his career in his native Ireland, he played in the Scottish Premiership for Hibernian and various clubs in all three divisions of the English Football League. Darragh Markey (born 23 May 1997) is an Irish professional footballer playing for League of Ireland Premier Division club, Drogheda United, having previously spent six seasons with St Patrick's Athletic, the club he started his professional career with.
