2024 Diamond League Shanghai
The 2024 Shanghai Diamond League was an outdoor track and field meeting on 27 April 2024. Last held at Shanghai Stadium in 2019, this meeting relocated west to Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre. This was the first meeting in China after the COVID-19 pandemic in China. The meeting was officially advertised as the 2024 Yangtze Delta Athletics Diamond Gala. It was the second leg of the 2024 Diamond League, just one week after the 2024 Xiamen Diamond League. Highlights At the meeting, Sha'Carri Richardson was upset by Daryll Neita in the women's 200 metres. Selemon Barega won the 5000 metres as expected, but 17-year-old Biniam Mehary surprised to place second. Results Athletes competing in the Diamond League disciplines earned extra compensation and points which went towards qualifying for the 2024 Diamond League finals. Akani Simbine (born 21 September 1993) is a South African sprinter specialising in the 100 metres event. He was fifth at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's 100 metres and was the 100 metres African record holder with a time of 9.84 seconds set in July 2021 until broken by Ferdinand Omurwa in September 2021. Simbine was a World Championships finalist in the men's 100 metres in 2017 (fifth) and 2019 (fourth), and was 100 metres champion at the 2018 African Championships and 2018 Commonwealth Games. Ethan Hussey (born 5 March 2003) is an English middle-distance runner specializing in the 800 metres. He won a bronze medal at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships in the 800 m. Career Hussey first represented the United Kingdom at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships, where he won a bronze medal in the 800 m. Clayton Murphy
Clayton Murphy (born February 26, 1995) is an American middle-distance runner. He won the bronze medal in the 800-meter run at the 2016 Olympic Games. He was the gold medalist in the 800-meter run at the 2015 Pan American Games. He ran collegiately for the University of Akron, before signing with Nike in June 2016 and joining the Nike Oregon Project. Early life and education Clayton Murphy is the son of Mark and Melinda Murphy. He was raised in New Madison, Ohio. He attended Tri-Village High School and began to take part in track and field and cross country running while there. is a Japanese sprinter who specializes in the 100 metres. Born in Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, Kiryū played football while at elementary school and became interested in track and field at junior high school, as his brother took part in the sport. In 2011, he won the under-16 national title in the 100 metres at the National Sports Festival of Japan, with a time of 10.58 seconds. The following year, Kiryū ran in the under-18 category at the same competition and broke the world youth best for the 100 metres by bettering Tamunosiki Atorudibo's record of 10.23 seconds by two hundredths of a second on 5 October 2012.
