2024 Bangladesh Ansar Protest
The 2024 Bangladesh Ansar protest was a protest for reforms on 25 August 2024, near the Bangladesh Secretariat by some members of the Bangladesh Ansar, a paramilitary force tasked with providing security to government installations and aiding law enforcement in Bangladesh. Background Following the fall of the Hasina's regime, a faction of Ansar members began protesting, demanding the nationalisation of their jobs and the abolition of the six-month "Rest System", among other benefits. These demonstrations led to severe traffic congestion across Dhaka, causing significant public disruption. On 25 August, the Home Affairs Advisor, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, met with the protesting Ansar members. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (born 2 February 1953) is a retired three star general of the Bangladesh Army and former director general of the Bangladesh Rifles. As of 16 August 2024, Chowdhury has been designated as an adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh. A former Principal Staff Officer of the Army of Bangladesh he was elevated to the position of Quartermaster General at the same time his military academy course-mate Moeen U Ahmed, the Chief of the Army Staff was made first serving General in national military history.
