2024 Austin FC Season
The 2024 Austin FC season will be the club's fourth season in Major League Soccer, the top flight of soccer in the United States. They playin the league's Western Conference. Background Austin FC started playing in the MLS Western Conference in 2021, finishing in 12th place with a record of 9W-4D-21L. 2022 brought many new experiences to Austin FC. They lost their first ever U.S. Open Cup match against San Antonio FC in extra time, won their first trophy, the Copa Tejas, and qualified for their first-ever MLS Cup Playoffs in just their second season as a franchise. Austin FC advanced to the Western Conference Finals but lost to LAFC. Austin FC fell almost all the way to the bottom of the 2023 standings, with the team finishing in 27th place in Major League Soccer. 2021 Austin FC Season
The 2021 Austin FC season was the club's inaugural season in Major League Soccer, the top flight of soccer in the United States. This was also the first season a top-tier sports franchise is playing in the Greater Austin region. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the season began on April 17, 2021, about a month and a half later than normal, and concluded on November 7, 2021. Outside of MLS, Austin FC would have competed in the 2021 U.S. Open Cup, but that competition was postponed indefinitely in April before being canceled in July. Austin FC won their first match in Commerce City, CO against the Colorado Rapids 3-1, where midfielder Diego Fagundez scored the club's first ever goal. They played their first game in Austin in front of 20,738 fans, a 0-0 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes. Damian Jan Las (born April 11, 2002) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Louisville City FC in the USL Championship, on loan from Major League Soccer club Austin FC. Club career Fulham On September 11, 2019, it was announced that Las would join Fulham from the academy of MLS team Chicago Fire FC. Daniel Pereira Gil (born 14 July 2000) is a Venezuelan professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Major League Soccer club Austin FC and the Venezuela national team. He played two seasons of college soccer with the Virginia Tech Hokies before being selected with the first overall pick by Austin FC in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft.
