2024 A Lyga
The 2024 A Lyga, for sponsorship reasons also called TOPsport A Lyga, was the 35th season of the A Lyga, the top-tier association football, football league of Lithuania. The season began on 1 March 2024 and ended on 9 November 2024. The winners (FK Žalgiris, Žalgiris) qualified for the 2025–26 UEFA Champions League#First qualifying round, 2025–26 Champions League first qualifying round. The runners-up (FC Hegelmann Litauen, Hegelmann), third-placed team (FK Kauno Žalgiris, Kauno Žalgiris), and 2024 Lithuanian Football Cup winners (FK Banga Gargždai, Banga) qualified for the 2025–26 UEFA Conference League#First qualifying round, 2025–26 Conference League first qualifying round. The ninth-placed team (FK Sūduva, Sūduva) qualified for the #A Lyga play-off, A Lyga play-off, winning and retaining their place in the league. A Lyga
The A Lyga is the top division of professional football in Lithuania. It is organized by Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) (). History The first football league was established in Lithuania in 1924, and in various forms existed until 1939. Due to the Polish–Lithuanian War, clubs from Vilnius did not take part in early period of the Lithuanian football competitions. Later during the period of Soviet occupation, a Lithuanian amateur top division existed, while professional players played in USSR football competitions. The Lithuanian professional top division was restored in 1990. The naming convention changed several times, but since 1999 the league is consistently referred to as A lyga. Format The league system and size have also stabilized since 1999. League size varied mostly between 8 and 10 teams, with the exceptions of 2011 A Lyga featuring 12 teams, and 2020 A Lyga record low of only 6 teams. The teams play 4 rounds in regular season. LFF I Lyga
The LFF Pirma Lyga, TOPsport Pirma Lyga, or Pirma Lyga, is the second tier of professional Lithuanian football championship. Format Organized by the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), I Lyga is contested by 16 teams, with the top team gaining promotion to A Lyga and replaced by the lowest-placed team in top division. The second-placed team qualifies to a promotion play-off with A Lyga's second to last team. Bottom 2 clubs are relegated to the II Lyga, and 3rd last team plays a play-off with the 3rd placed team in II Lyga. The final list of participants often does not correlate to the final results of the previous season, as the participation is finalized through the Lithuanian Football Federation league licensing process. Dzūkija Futbolo Klubas Dainava, in short, DFK Dainava, is a Lithuanian football club from Alytus. The club was established in 2016 as a phoenix club after FK Dainava Alytus was dissolved in 2014. Football Club Džiugas Telšiai, commonly known as Džiugas Telšiai, or simply as Džiugas, is a Lithuanian association football club based in Telšiai, that competes in the A Lyga, top tier of Lithuanian football.
