The 2023–24 season was FC Twente's 59th season in existence, and fifth consecutive in the Eredivisie. In addition to the domestic league, the club also competed in the KNVB Cup and the UEFA Europa Conference League. Football Club Twente (), sometimes known internationally as FC Twente Enschede, is a Dutch professional Association football, football club from the city of Enschede. The club was formed in 1965 by the merger of 1926 Dutch champions Sportclub Enschede with Enschedese Boys. FC Twente's trophy cabinet includes the 2010–11 KNVB Cup, KNVB Cup, the 2011 Johan Cruyff Shield, Johan Cruyff Shield, and the 2009–10 Eredivisie, Eredivisie title. They were runner-up in the Eredivisie in two other seasons, and finished second in the 1974–75 UEFA Cup, UEFA Cup. They have also won the Dutch Cup three times, most recently in 2011. Gijs Smal
Gijs Smal (born 31 August 1997) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Eredivisie club Feyenoord. Career Born in De Rijp, Smal made his Eerste Divisie debut for FC Volendam on 22 September 2017 in a game against De Graafschap. He then managed to establish himself in the starting line-up and made 28 league appearances in his first season. The following season, Smal lost the competition for left-back to Robin Schouten, who had come over from Jong Ajax, and mainly appeared as a substitute. However, he did become champion of the Derde Divisie Sunday with the reserve team, Jong Volendam. Under the new head coach Wim Jonk, he again became a starter for the first team in the 2019–20 season. With six goals and ten assists, he was a key player in the second-tier that season, which was suspended and later abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Joshua Benjamin Brenet (born 20 March 1994) is a professional association football, footballer who plays for Al-Rayyan SC, Al-Rayyan as a full-back (association football), full-back. Brenet played two friendlies for the Netherlands national football team, Netherlands national team, before switching to play for the Curaçao national football team, Curaçao national team. Younes Taha
Younes Taha El Idrissi (born 27 November 2002) is a footballer who plays as a midfielder for FC Groningen, on loan from FC Twente. Born in the Netherlands, he represents Morocco at youth level. Club career PEC Zwolle Taha joined PEC Zwolle in the summer of 2022 from FC Volendam having never started a senior game for Volendam. He signed for PEC Zwolle on a two-year contract with an option for a third year. Michel Vlap
Michel Vlap (; born 2 June 1997) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Twente. He has represented the Netherlands internationally at various youth levels. Club career Heerenveen Vlap is an academy graduate of Eredivisie side Heerenveen and is the son of academy coach and former player Jan Vlap. Having progressed through the ranks of Heerenveen's youth academy, he signed his first professional contract on 17 February 2015, penning a three-year deal with the club. Alec Van Hoorenbeeck (born 30 December 1998) is a Belgian footballer who plays for Dutch club Twente. Issam El Maach (; born 1 February 2001) is a professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Eredivisie club Twente. Alfons Sampsted (born 6 April 1998) is an Icelandic professional footballer who plays as a right-back for club Birmingham City, and for the Iceland national team. Naci Ünüvar (born 13 June 2003) is a professional footballer who plays as a winger or an attacking midfielder for club Twente. Born in the Netherlands, he is a youth international for Turkey.
