The 2023–24 EFL League One (referred to as the Sky Bet League One for sponsorship purposes) is the 20th season of the EFL League One under its current title and the 32nd season under its current league division format. The season began on 5 August 2023. On 19 May 2023, Wigan Athletic were deducted four points for salary breaches, with another four-point deduction suspended. On 26 May 2023, a further four-point deduction was imposed. On 16 August 2023, Reading were deducted one point for failing to pay players on time and in full on three occasions in the 2022–23 season. On 13 September 2023, a further three points were deducted, for failing to deposit player wages on time. EFL League One
The English Football League One (often referred to as League One for short or Sky Bet League One for sponsorship purposes, and known as the Football League One from 2004 until 2016) is the second-highest division of the English Football League and the third tier overall in the entire English football league system. League One debuted for the 2004–05 season. It was previously known briefly as the Football League Second Division and for much longer, before the advent of the Premier League, as the Football League Third Division. At present, Fleetwood Town hold the longest tenure in League One, last being out of the division in 2013–14 season when they were promoted from League Two. The 2022–23 EFL Championship (referred to as the Sky Bet Championship for sponsorship reasons) is the 19th season of the Football League Championship under its current title and the 31st season under its current league division format.
