2023–24 Botswana Premier League
The 2023–24 Botswana Premier League season was the 46th season of the Botswana Premier League, the top-tier football league in Botswana, since its establishment in 1966. The season started in October 2023. Jwaneng Galaxy FC were the defending champions after winning the 2022-23 season. This season was intended to see four teams relegated instead of the usual two, with only two teams going up from the second tier, namely the Botswana First Division North and Botswana First Division South. This was due to an intended league re-structuring from the BFA who were planning to decrease the amount of teams from 16 to 12. However, the re-structuring was delayed, and the 2024–25 Botswana Premier League also started with 16 teams. Jwaneng Galaxy
Jwaneng Galaxy Football Club is a Botswana football club based in Jwaneng. The club currently plays in the Botswana Premier League. History Galaxy were founded in 2015 after two local clubs merged: the Jwaneng Comets and the Debswana Youngsters. Galaxy were promoted to the Botswana Premier League for the first time in 2015, winning the First Division South with a match to spare. Botswana Premier League Led by Zambian coach Mike Sithole, Galaxy won the club's first silverware in 2016–17, the Mascom Top 8 Cup, beating Orapa United in extra time in the final. They also finished second in the Botswana Premier League and qualified for the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup. Tati African Football Independent Club also known as TAFIC for short, is a football club based in Francistown, Botswana. The team was relegated from the Botswana Premier League to the First Division North in 2014. Nicknamed Matjimenyenga, after a stream, which runs behind the low-income locations of Maipaafela and Kgaphamadi. The club motto: "Undipe ndi kupe". The club was founded in 1959 as a breakaway from the then popular TAFA football club. Information has it that the founders of TAFIC, which was initially known as Sharp Shooters in its formative years, were based at Kgaphamadi. They gained promotion back to the elite league as champions in the 2016/17 season but were subsequently relegated the very next season. They are currently playing in the Botswana Premier League. Francistown is the second-largest city in Botswana, with a population of about 103,417 inhabitants and 147,122 inhabitants in its agglomeration at the 2022 census. It is located in eastern Botswana, about north-northeast from the capital, Gaborone. Francistown is located at the confluence of the Tati and Ntshe rivers, and near the Shashe River (tributary to the Limpopo) and from the international border with Zimbabwe. Francistown was the centre of Southern Africa's first gold rush and is still surrounded by old and abandoned mines.
