2023 Đắk Lắk Attacks
On June 11, 2023, an unidentified group of dozens of individuals attacked the People's Committee headquarters of the Ea Tiêu and Ea Ktur communes in Cư Kuin district, Cư Kuin district, Đắk Lắk province, Đắk Lắk province, Vietnam resulting in 9 fatalities and 2 seriously injured individuals. Simultaneously, numerous papers and documents were set on fire and destroyed. As of June 23, 2023, a total of 75 individuals have been arrested in connection with the shooting incident out of a total of 84 individuals involved. The Government of Vietnam, Vietnamese government has referred to this as "an act of terrorism aimed at overthrowing the people's government." Montagnard (Vietnam)
Montagnards () is an umbrella term for the various indigenous peoples of the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The French term () signifies a mountain dweller, and is a carryover from the French colonial period in Vietnam. In Vietnamese, they are known by the term người Thượng (), although this term can also be applied to other minority ethnic groups in Vietnam. In modern Vietnam, both terms are archaic, and indigenous ethnic groups are referred to as ''đồng bào Tây Nguyên'' () or ''dân tộc thiểu số'' Tây Nguyên (). Earlier they were referred to pejoratively as mọi. Sometimes the term Degar (Đềga) is used for the group as well.
