2023 Union Square Riot
On August 4, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m., American Internet personality Kai Cenat held an event—supposedly a giveaway of gaming-related items in New York City's Union Square—without a permit. He had posted several announcements a few days prior, stating that his partners Fanum, Duke Dennis, and Agent00 would be with him. Anyone who could adequately answer questions related to YouTube and live streaming would be given a prize. The event, which drew thousands of participants to Union Square Park, became a riot. Social media posts of the event surfaced around the same time. During the riot, 7 people were injured, and 65 people, including 30 minors, were arrested. The neighborhood's subway station and surrounding stores closed during the incident. Cenat was taken into police custody by the New York City Police Department during the riot and was charged with inciting a riot and unlawful assembly. Unlawful Assembly
Unlawful assembly is a legal term to describe a group of people with the mutual intent of deliberate disturbance of the peace. If the group is about to start an act of disturbance, it is termed a rout; if the disturbance is commenced, it is then termed a riot. In England, the offence was abolished in 1986, but it exists in other countries. Subathon
On March 14, 2021, American Online streamer, livestreamer Ludwig Ahgren began continuously livestreaming on Twitch (service), Twitch. The livestream ended on April 13, 2021, after 31 days. A subathon is a type of Live streaming, livestream in which viewer donations add more time to a descending timer that counts down to the end of the stream. Throughout the streams' duration, Ahgren received 282,191 subscriptions, breaking the previous record set in 2018 by Ninja (gamer), Tyler "Ninja" Blevins of the most concurrent subscribers on Twitch. The subathon's content consisted of talking to his viewers and Internet forum moderator, stream moderators, playing games, and sleeping, among other various daily activities. During Ahgren's sleep breaks (which comprised about a third of the stream) his moderators entertained the audience, for which they were financially compensated.
