2023 US Open (tennis)
The 2023 US Open was the 143rd edition of tennis' US Open (tennis), US Open and the fourth and final Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam event of the year. It was held on outdoor hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City. Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Świątek were the men's and women's singles defending champions. Świątek lost to Jeļena Ostapenko in the fourth round, while Alcaraz lost to Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. Tournament The 2023 US Open is the 143rd consecutive edition of the tournament and will take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park of Queens in New York City. The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year. In doubles, a Grand Slam may be achieved as a team or as an individual with different partners. Winning all four major championships consecutively but not within the same calendar year is referred to as a "non-calendar-year Grand Slam", while winning the four majors at any point during the course of a career is known as a "Career Grand Slam". Stéphane Houdet
Stéphane Houdet (born 20 November 1970) is a French wheelchair tennis player. Houdet is a former singles and doubles world number one. In 2014, he became the first man in history to complete the calendar-year Grand Slam in men's wheelchair doubles. He competed in wheelchair tennis at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. In July 2022, Houdet was suspended from competition after missing three anti-doping tests in a 12-month window. 2013 Houdet won two titles in the 2013 season with the victories achieved in Johannesburg and Sardinia. He was a losing finalist in Pensacola, Rome, Nottingham, St Louis and Rue. Houdet also won two Grand Slam singles titles at Roland Garros and New York and was the runner-up in Melbourne. Alfie Hewett
Alfie Hewett (born 6 December 1997 in Norwich, Norfolk) is a British professional wheelchair tennis player. He is the current world No. 2 in singles and world No. 1 in doubles. Hewett has won a total of 32 major titles: ten in singles and 22 in doubles, partnering Gordon Reid for all of the latter. The pair completed the Grand Slam in 2021 (the first to do so since Stéphane Houdet first achieved the feat in 2014 with multiple partners), and won Paralympic gold in men's doubles at the 2024 Summer Paralympics, having been silver medalists in the two previous Games. She was a former junior World number one in January 2023, she has won 2023 US Open and 2024 French Open wheelchair girls' doubles with Ksénia Chasteau. Joshua Johns (tennis)
Joshua Leroy Johns (February 27, 1881 – March 16, 1947) was a U.S. Representative from Wisconsin. Johns was born in the town of Eagle, Wisconsin, on February 27, 1881. He attended the public schools there. He engaged in banking in Richland Center, Wisconsin, from 1902 to 1905. He graduated from the law department of the University of Chattanooga, Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1906 and from Yale University in 1907.
