2023 Tejano Music Awards
The 43rd Annual Tejano Music Awards ceremony was held on October 21, 2023, at the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas. Those who performed at the ceremony were Siggno, Ricardo Castillon, Isabel Marie, Angelica Y Moneda, Grupo Asalto, Suenatron, and Paula DeAnda. On September 28, 2023, it was revealed that Joe Lopez and Humberto "Beto" Ramon would have been receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. The 2023 Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair that preceded the awards ceremony, drew 125,000 people during the four-day event. More than 100 musicians performed during the event. The biggest winners were Siggno's Jesse Turner (Male Vocalist of the Year and Tejano Album of the Year), and Mike Gonzalez & The Iconiczz ( Best New Group and Best New Female Artist for Di Marie). Mazz
Mazz is a Tejano band originally from Brownsville, Texas. The band was known for their idiosyncratic and innovative form of Tejano cumbia which made them distinguishable among their counterparts. Mazz became one of the most popular Tejano music bands during the genre's 1990s golden age. Mazz won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Tejano Album in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and in 2009, the most wins for a Tejano musician. They landed their first major recording contract with EMI Latin in the early 1990s, before switching to Freddie Records in 1999. Joe Lopez and Jimmy Gonzalez formed Mazz in 1978 before disbanding and creating smaller bands throughout their careers. Gonzalez was known for blending a variety of genres into his basic Tejano sound, a formula he continued to use up until his final release, ''Porque Todavía te Quiero'' (2018). Latin Grammy Awards
The Latin Grammy Awards are an award by The Latin Recording Academy to recognize outstanding achievement in the Latin music industry. Shelly Lares
Michelle Yvette Lares (born November 13, 1971), best known as Shelly Lares, is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and percussionist. Starting in 1984, Lares was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year for thirteen consecutive years and won several other awards at the Tejano Music Awards throughout her career. She signed a recording contract with Manny Records in 1986. She left the label in 1996, and signed with Sony Music Latin until she was dropped in the late 1990s. In 2006, she signed a recording contract with Tejas Records. Lares is known for her "talent and charismatic stage presence and strong voice." according to AllMusic. Stefani Montiel
Stefani Melissa Sullivan (born December 23, 1972), professionally known as Stefani Montiel is a Tejano music singer. In the early 1990s, she emerged as one of the new acts in Tejano who reinvigorated the genre. Montiel is known for her fusion of various genres into her Tejano sound. The singer has been inducted into the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame and New Mexico Music Hall of Fame, and has been nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Tejano Album. In 2006, as part of Las 3 Divas with Shelly Lares and Elida Reyna, Montiel received a nomination for a Grammy Award. Her husband and musician, Gabriel Zavala, produces her music. Jay Perez
Jay Perez (born September 23, 1963) is an American Tejano musician, who is known for his mixing of rhythm and blues with traditional Tejano music. Career Jay was born in San Antonio on September 21, 1963. He was raised by his mother, Janie Narranjo. He attended John Jay High School and dropped out his Junior year to work and provide for is brother and sister. Initially a drummer for Mysterio Band with Albert Castaneda, he then became a leading vocalist for Latin Breed and David Lee Garza y los Musicales. Perez began a solo career in the early 1990s and has released several solo albums. He has also won several Tejano Music Awards. Tejano Music Award For Song Of The Year
The Tejano Music Award for Song of the Year is an honor presented annually at the Tejano Music Awards, whose mission is to recognize the most talented performers of the genre. Songs nominated for the category are also eligible to be nominated for Single of the Year, and genre-specific categories Tejano Crossover, Mexican Regional Song, and Tejano Country Song of the Year.
