2023 Spain Masters
The 2023 Spain Masters (officially known as the Madrid Spain Masters 2023) was a badminton tournament which was held at the Centro Deportivo Municipal Gallur in Madrid, Spain, from 28 March to 2 April 2023 with a total prize of $210,000. Tournament The 2023 Spain Masters was the ninth tournament of the 2023 BWF World Tour and also part of the Spain Masters championship, which had been held since 2018. This tournament was organized by the Spanish Badminton Federation and sanctioned by the BWF. Venue This international tournament was held at the Centro Deportivo Municipal Gallur in Madrid, Spain. Point distribution Below is the point distribution for each phase of the tournament based on the BWF points system for the BWF World Tour Super 300 event. Prize money The total prize money for this tournament was US$210,000. Distribution of prize money was in accordance with BWF regulations. Kanta Tsuneyama
was a Japanese badminton player from Kusatsu, Shiga Prefecture. He reached a career-high ranking of world number 10 in men's singles. During his career, Tsuneyama won several BWF World Tour titles, including the 2018 Thailand Open, the 2019 Korea Masters, and the 2021 French Open. He was also part of the Japanese teams that won silver at the 2018 Thomas Cup and bronze medals at the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games. Tsuneyama officially retired on 22 August 2024. He has since been appointed as the coach for the Hokuto Bank Women's Badminton Team, starting in the 2025 season. Luís Enrique Peñalver Pereira (; born 10 February 1996) is a Spanish badminton player. The Toledo-born, represented Spain competed at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. Brice Leverdez (born 9 April 1986) is a French badminton player. Arnaud Merklé
Arnaud-Sylvain-André Merklé (; born 25 April 2000) is a French badminton player from Staffelfelden. He was the boys singles European Junior Champion in 2018, and also part of the national junior team that clinched the mixed team title in 2017 and 2018. He participated at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and reached the boys' singles bronze medal match losing to Kodai Naraoka of Japan in the rubber game. Career In 2022, Merklé reached his first BWF World Tour final at the Syed Modi International. Toma Junior Popov (born 29 September 1998) is a French badminton player. Partnered with his brother Christo Popov, he won the men's doubles gold at the 2025 European Championships. He competed at the 2018 Mediterranean Games and claimed the men's singles bronze medal. In the juniors, Popov won the bronze medal at the 2015 European Junior Championships in the boys' singles event.
