A by-election was held in the provincial riding of Regina Coronation Park in Saskatchewan on August 10, 2023, to elect a new member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan following the resignation of Saskatchewan Party MLA Mark Docherty. The Saskatchewan Green Party is a political party in Saskatchewan, Canada. The Green Party was founded in 1998 as the "New Green Alliance" ''(NGA)'' by environmental and social justice activists dismayed with the premiership of the Saskatchewan NDP's Roy Romanow. The NGA ran on an environmentally-focused and social democratic platform to the NDP's left in the 1999 and 2003 elections. In 2005, the NGA changed its name to the Green Party of Saskatchewan although there is still no officially direct association with the Green Party of Canada. The current party leader is Naomi Hunter. By-elections occur whenever there is a vacancy in the Legislative Assembly, although an imminent general election may allow the vacancy to remain until the dissolution of parliament. Causes A by-election occurs whenever there is a vacancy in the Saskatchewan legislature. Saskatchewan Progress Party
The Saskatchewan Progress Party (SPP) is a liberal political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It was founded in 1905 as the Liberal Party of Saskatchewan, and retained that name until members voted to change it in 2023. Until 2009, the party was affiliated with the Liberal Party of Canada. The Liberals were a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics during the first half of the twentieth century, forming government for all but five years between 1905 and 1944. With the emergence of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) under Tommy Douglas' leadership, the Liberals spent the following two decades in Opposition before forming two more consecutive majority governments from 1964 to 1971. The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan.
