2023 PointsBet Invitational
The 2023 PointsBet Invitational curling tournament was held from September 27 to October 1 at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville, Ontario. The event featured thirty-two Canadian teams and was the first major event of the 2023–24 season. It was played in a single-elimination tournament with the winning team on both the men's and women's sides receiving $50,000 each. Qualification The top 10 ranked men's and women's 2022–23 CTRS standings qualified for the event first. The 2023 Ontario men's and women's champions also qualified. Don Bartlett
Donald Bartlett (born April 1, 1960) is a Canadian curler who lives in Edmonton, Alberta. Bartlett is best known for his many years playing lead for Kevin Martin. In 1999 Bartlett's home town became host the Don Bartlett Curling Classic. Now an annual curling bonspiel, the tournament attracts many teams from across Canada as well as a number of international competitors. Career Don Bartlett played lead for Kevin Martin beginning in 1990. It was in 1991 that the team won the Brier that year. The team would win the 1997 Brier. Internationally, Bartlett has been to two World Curling Championships and two Winter Olympics. At the 1991 Worlds, Martin,third Kevin Park and second Dan Petryk won a silver medal. The U25 NextGen Classic is an annual curling tournament held at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. The event is held each year in late August to early September with the goal of helping junior teams to transition into the adult ranks. 2023 U Sports/Curling Canada University Curling Championships
The 2023 U Sports/Curling Canada University Championships were held from March 15 to 19 at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex in Sudbury, Ontario. The host university of the event was Laurentian University. Sudbury was originally scheduled to host the 2022 edition of the event, however, it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Ontario. The event was held in conjunction with the 2023 CCAA/Curling Canada College Curling Championships, the Canadian college curling championship. On the men's side, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks defended their title with a 9–7 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers in the championship game. 2023 Canadian Junior Curling Championships
The 2023 New Holland Canadian Junior Curling Championships were held from March 26 to April 2 at the Aréna Jacques Laperrière and the Club de Curling Noranda in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. The winners will represent Canada at the 2023 World Junior-B Curling Championships where they will need to finish in the top three to qualify for the 2024 World Junior Curling Championships in Lohja, Finland. This was the third time Rouyn-Noranda played host the Canadian Junior Curling Championships. The city previously held the men's event in 1960 which was won by Alberta's Tommy Kroeger and the women's event in 1986, won by British Columbia's Jodie Sutton. CTRS Standings
The Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) is a point system used by Curling Canada to rank men's and women's curling teams across Canada. They are determined through points earned in various curling bonspiels held worldwide throughout the season. CTRS points are the basis of the World Curling Tour's Order of Merit and are also used as criteria in identifying teams that qualify for the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. Beginning in 2018, the top two CTRS teams that do not otherwise qualify for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts or Tim Hortons Brier will earn the right to compete in a play-in game for a wildcard berth in those tournaments. A single-elimination, knockout, or sudden death tournament is a type of elimination tournament where the loser of each match-up is immediately eliminated from the tournament. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two.
