The 2023 Minnesota United FC season was the club's seventh in Major League Soccer. Their season began on February 25, 2023, where they faced FC Dallas in Frisco, Texas, Frisco. The club played its home matches at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The club failed to reach the MLS Cup Playoffs for a fifth consecutive year. Minnesota United FC is an American professional soccer club based in Saint Paul, Minnesota that plays in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer. The club began play in 2017 as the league's 22nd club, and replaced the North American Soccer League (NASL) franchise of the same name. The club played its home games at TCF Bank Stadium, on the campus of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, for its first two seasons in MLS play. Mark Stewart Watson (born 8 September 1970) is a Canadian former professional soccer player who works as Technical Director (GM) at Minnesota United FC. A former defender, Watson is the sixth most-capped player in the history of the Canada national team. Club career Watson spent 18 years as a professional soccer player. He spent three seasons with Watford FC of the English Championship from 1993 to 1995 and then joined Major League Soccer for its inaugural season in 1996. Devin Padelford (born January 3, 2003) is an American professional soccer player who plays for Major League Soccer club Minnesota United. Career Youth Padelford attended Woodbury High School where he played soccer at the varsity level. He graduated from Woodbury High School in 2021, where he was named All-State and Conference Player of the Year in 2021. Padelford also played club soccer with St. Croix Soccer Club, helping the team to win the Las Vegas Cup in 2019 and become State Champions in 2019 and 2021. Homegrown Player Rule (Major League Soccer)
The Homegrown Player Rule is a Major League Soccer program that allows MLS teams to sign local players from their own development academies directly to MLS first team rosters. Before the creation of the rule in 2008, every player entering Major League Soccer would have to be assigned through one of the existing MLS player allocation processes, such as the MLS SuperDraft. MLS roster rules allow a team to sign players to contracts similar to Generation adidas contracts, which do not count against the MLS salary budget and may earn a much higher salary than the league minimum. MLS has since removed this wording from the roster rules. The Maryland Terrapins men's soccer team represents the University of Maryland in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college soccer competition. The program has won four NCAA Division I College Cup national championships (1968, 2005, 2008, 2018). Stewart Kerr
James Stewart Robert Kerr (born 13 November 1974) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Celtic, Swindon Town, Brighton and Wigan Athletic. Kerr was forced into early retirement at the age of 27 due to a back injury.
