2023 Melbourne Formula 3 Round
The 2023 Melbourne FIA Formula 3 round was a motor racing event held between 31 March and 2 April 2023 at the Albert Park Circuit. It was the second round of the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship and was held in support of the 2023 Australian Grand Prix. Classification Qualifying Notes: * – Hunter Yeany originally qualified 22nd by setting a lap time of 1:35.132, but was given a 10-place grid drop for Saturday's Sprint Race and his time was deleted as he was found to be significantally speeding under double yellow flag conditions while setting his fastest lap time. As a result, the penalty dropped him to P26 in the final classification and to P29 for the Sprint Race. * – Tommy Smith originally qualified 28th, but was given a carrying penalty from the Sakhir Feature Race for his involvement in two incidents. Albert Park Circuit
The Albert Park Circuit is a motorsport street circuit around Albert Park Lake, three kilometres south of central Melbourne. It is used annually as a circuit for the Formula One Australian Grand Prix, the supporting Supercars Championship Melbourne 400 and other associated support races. The circuit has an FIA Grade 1 license. Although the entire track consists of normally public roads, each sector includes medium to high-speed characteristics more commonly associated with dedicated racetracks facilitated by grass and gravel run-off safety zones that are reconstructed annually. Franco Alejandro Colapinto (born 27 May 2003) is an Argentine-Italian racing driver who is due to compete in FIA Formula 3 for MP Motorsport. He is the 2019 F4 Spanish champion and a race winner in the European Le Mans Series. He is a member of the Williams Driver Academy. Career Karting Colapinto started karting at the age of nine. Jenzer Motorsport is an auto racing team based in Switzerland. Taylor Barnard (born 1 June 2004) is a British racing driver who is currently racing for Jenzer Motorsport in FIA Formula 3. He is the reigning ADAC Formula 4 runner-up, as well as a protégé of Formula One World Champion Nico Rosberg. Career Karting Born in Norwich, Barnard began karting in 2012 at the Trent Valley Kart Club. From there, he branched out to the Super 1 National Championship, where he would remain until his title victory in 2017. Kaylen Frederick (born 4 June 2002) is an American-German race car driver who is currently racing in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship for ART Grand Prix. He was the last champion of the British Formula 3 Championship in 2020. Career Karting career Frederick began his racing career in karting at the age of seven, where he remained active until 2015. José María Navalón Boya (born 13 April 2004), better known as Mari Boya, is a Spanish racing driver, who is set to race for MP Motorsport in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship. He previously competed in the Formula Regional European Championship during 2021 and 2022 and was the 2020 Spanish F4 vice-champion. Nikola Tsolov ( bg, Никола Цолов, born 21 December 2006) is a Bulgarian racing driver who is the current champion of the F4 Spanish Championship and a member of the Alpine Affiliate programme. Jonny Edgar (born 13 February 2004) is an English racing driver currently set to race in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship for MP Motorsport. He is a member of the Red Bull Junior Team and is the 2020 ADAC Formula 4 champion. Career Karting Born in Whitehaven, Edgar started his career in 2012, being in the fourth generation of Edgars to practice motor racing. Campos Racing is a Spanish motor racing team, founded by former Formula One driver Adrián Campos. The team has been successful in Formula Three and the GP2 Series. History After retiring from racing, Campos formed his own team at the end of 1997, under the name Campos Motorsport.
