2023 Liga 3 (Georgia)
The 2023 Liga 3 was the seventh season under its current title and the 35th season of third-tier football in Georgia. The regular two-round tournament began on 4 April and ended on 1 December with promotion play-offs completed on 10 December. Each team played thirty matches in as many rounds. FC Gori, Gori had the longest tenure in the league with the 7th consecutive season while FC Meshakhte Tkibuli, Meshakhte and FC Bakhmaro Chokhatauri, Bakhmaro entered into the sixth year. On the other hand, three of the four new members, namely FC Locomotive Tbilisi, Locomotive-2, FC Rustavi, Rustavi and SFC Shturmi, Shturmi made a debut in Liga 3. Liga 3 (Georgia)
Liga 3, organized by Georgian Football Federation since 1990, is the third division of professional football in Georgia. Until 2017, when the current name was introduced, it was known as Meore Liga (the Second league). Structure and league system There were 20 teams competing in the league in 2017. In 2019, when Liga 4 was formed, their number was reduced to ten, although after two seasons GFF decided to extend the league to 14 at the expense of two bottom teams from the previous season and two second-placed clubs from Liga 4 While and Red Groups. For 2022 the number of clubs was increased to 16. Seasons run based on Spring-Autumn system with each team playing an equal amount of home and away games against their league rivals. FC Matchakhela Khelvachauri
FC Matchakhela is a Georgian football club based in the town of Khelvachauri. They currently compete in Liga 3, the third tier of the national league system. History Matchakhela were founded оn the basis of Khelvachauri Sport School in 2011. Amiran Gogitidze, the first head coach, guided the club to Meore Liga, which they won with automatic promotion. Matchakhela were engaged in inter-Adjarian rivalry with Dinamo Batumi for a second promotion place to Umaglesi Liga for most of the next season, in which eventually the latter prevailed. Overall, the 3rd place taken in 2014 in Liga 2 has been the club's highest point reached in Georgian leagues. The team concluded the 2014/15 season comfortably in mid-table, but a year later entered a period of instability. Struggling the whole season, they eventually lost a battle for survival. Chokhatauri
Chokhatauri ( ka, ჩოხატაური) is a town in Georgia’s Guria region, 310 km west to the nation's capital of Tbilisi. It is an administrative center of Chokhatauri Municipality, which comprises the town itself and its adjoining 61 villages. The area of the town is 204 km2; population – 1815 (2014). Mtskheta-Mtianeti
Mtskheta-Mtianeti ( ka, მცხეთა-მთიანეთი, literally "Mtskheta-Mountain Area") is a region ( Mkhare) in eastern Georgia comprising the town of Mtskheta, which serves as a regional capital, together with its district and the adjoining mountainous areas. The western part of the region, namely the entire Akhalgori Municipality, is controlled by breakaway South Ossetia since the 2008 Russo-Georgian War. Dusheti
Dusheti () is a town in Georgia, the administrative center of Dusheti Municipality, in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, 54 km northeast of the nation's capital of Tbilisi. History Dusheti is on both banks of the small, mountainous Dushetis-Khevi River in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus range at an elevation of 900 m. It functions as the center of the Dusheti Municipality which, beyond the town itself, includes several villages of the historical community of Pkhovi, (Pshavi, and Khevsureti). FC Aragvi Dusheti, or simply Aragvi Dusheti ( ka, სკ დუშეთის არაგვი) is a Georgian association football club from Dusheti, currently based in Tbilisi. Following the 2023 season, the team won Liga 3 and advanced to Erovnuli Liga 2, the second tier of Georgian football. History Established in 1954, during the Soviet period Aragvi mainly participated in the East group of Georgian republican league 2. In the 2008–09 season, the team played in the Meore Liga. Shiola Shiolashvili led the team to first place in the third tier. In 2009–10 season the team had the opportunity to participate in the Pirveli Liga next year, but some financial problems made this goal unachievable. Guria Lanchkhuti
FC Guria is a Georgian association football club from Lanchkhuti, which competes in Liga 3, the third tier of the national league. Being one of the strongest Georgian teams in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Guria have taken part in the Soviet Top league, also won the national Cup and played fifteen seasons in Umaglesi Liga, twice claiming silver medals. History Early period Formed in 1924 as FC Kimi, the team ceased to exist after the start of World War 2 and resumed functioning in 1952 under the name "Kolmeurne". FC Kolkheti Khobi
FC Kolkheti Khobi is a Georgian association football club based in the town of Khobi. Following the 2022 season they won promotion to Erovnuli Liga 2, the second tier of Georgian league system. The club has spent several seasons in the top division. History Established in 1936, Kolkheti played many years in Georgian championship during the Soviet Union. In 1988 the club won the title and advanced to the Soviet Second league where the next year they finished in the 5th place. After 1990, when Umaglesi Liga was formed, Kolkheti participated in initial three seasons. Later they spent several years in the second and third divisions.
