2023 Japan Curling Championships
The 2023 Japan Curling Championships (branded as the 40th Zen-Noh Japan Curling Championships) were held from January 29 to February 5 at the Tokoro Curling Club in Tokoro, Kitami, Hokkaido, Japan. Both the men's and women's events were played in a round robin format which qualified four teams for a page playoff. After being pushed to May in 2022 due to the 2022 Winter Olympics, the championship returned to its normal dates from the end of January to the start of February. The winning teams earned the right to represent Japan at the 2023 World Men's Curling Championship and the 2023 World Women's Curling Championship respectively. Tokoro, Hokkaido
is a small town, formerly an independent administrative division located in Tokoro District, Abashiri Subprefecture (now Okhotsk Subprefecture), Hokkaido, Japan. On March 5, 2006, the division, along with the towns of Rubeshibe and Tanno (all from Tokoro District), was merged into a part of the expanded city of Kitami, and became Tokoro Town, Kitami City. Chinami Yoshida
is a Japanese curler. She currently plays third for Team Loco Solare, which is skipped by Satsuki Fujisawa. The team won the bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics and the silver medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Career Yoshida began curling at age seven at the Tokoro Curling Club in Kitami. During her junior days, she skipped a Kitami-based junior rink of Kaho Onodera, Yumi Suzuki, and her sister Yurika Yoshida. The 2023 World Women's Curling Championship (branded as 2023 LGT World Women's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was held from March 18 to 26 at the Göransson Arena in Sandviken, Sweden. The format for the Championship featured a thirteen team round robin. The top six teams qualified for the playoff round where the top two teams received a bye while the remaining four played the first round. The 2023 World Curling Championships, World Men's Curling Championship (branded as the 2023 Balkrishna Industries, BKT Tires & OK Tire World Men's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was held from April 1 to 9 at TD Place Arena, TD Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Ottawa was selected as the host site in June 2022. It had originally been planned for the city to host the event 2021 World Men's Curling Championship, in 2021, but the event was moved to the "Calgary bubble" due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The curling competitions of the 2022 Winter Olympics were held at the Beijing National Aquatics Centre, one of the Olympic Green venues. The 2024 Japan Curling Championships (branded as the 41st Zen-Noh Japan Curling Championships) were held from January 28 to February 4 at the Hokkaido Bank Curling Stadium in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. The winning teams earned the right to represent Japan at the 2024 World Men's Curling Championship and the 2024 World Women's Curling Championship respectively. Both the men's and women's events were played in three rounds, a change in format from previous years. Similar to the Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the ten teams were split into two pools of five. The top three teams in each group advanced to the championship round where they crossed over and played the three teams from the opposing pool. Following the conclusion of the championship round, the first-place team advanced directly to the final with the second and third place teams playing in the semifinal. The 2022 Japan Curling Championships (branded as the 39th Zen-Noh Japan Curling Championships) were held from May 22 to 29 at the Tokoro Curling Club in Tokoro, Kitami, Hokkaido, Japan. Because of the 2022 Winter Olympics, a World Championship Trial was held in December 2021 between three teams on the men's and women's sides to determine Japan's representatives for the 2022 World Men's Curling Championship and 2022 World Women's Curling Championship. Due to this, the Japan Curling Championships were pushed back later into the year.
