2023 Icebreaker Challenge
The 2023 Icebreaker Challenge was held from August 25 to 27 at the Morris Curling Club in Morris, Manitoba. The event was held in a round robin format with a $6,500 purse. In the final, Kate Cameron and her new Manitoba rink of Meghan Walter, Taylor McDonald and Mackenzie Elias capped off an undefeated week with an 8–6 win over the United States' Delaney Strouse. Trailing by two in the eighth, Cameron scored four to defeat the American squad that began their season by winning the 2023 Euro Super Series the week before. Sarah Anderson took third by defeating Kristy Watling 8–6 in the third-place game. In the seeding games, Rachel Workin finished fifth with a 10–3 win over Shaela Hayward while Katy Lukowich won 5–3 over Miranda Scheel in the seventh place game. Morris, Manitoba
Morris is a small town in the Pembina Valley region of Manitoba, Canada, located 51 km south of Winnipeg and 42 km north of Emerson. Morris is home to 1,885 people (2016). Named after Alexander Morris, the second Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. Highway 75, which turns into Interstate 29, is the major highway which runs from Winnipeg to Missouri. Sarah Pyke
Sarah Pyke (born January 13, 1987 in Winnipeg, Manitoba as Sarah Wazney) is a Canadian curler. She currently plays lead on Team Kristy Watling. She is a former Canadian junior champion and World junior bronze medallist. Curling career Juniors Pyke's junior career involved winning a number of provincial titles. She played for Manitoba at the 2003 Canada Winter Games, she won the 2001 and 2003 Manitoba Under 16 championships, was a silver medallist at the 2004 U18 Optimist International event. She was also a CIS/CCA Canadian University Gold Medallist in 2008. In 2007 Pyke won the 2008 Manitoba mixed title playing lead for Reid Carruthers. Emily Deschenes
Emily Deschenes (born December 25, 2002) is a Canadian curler from Ottawa, Ontario. Career Deschenes skipped her rink to silver at the 2019 Canadian U18 Curling Championships in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Deschenes was selected to represent Canada in the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics in Lausanne, Switzerland. The rink, skipped by Nathan Young, went undefeated in the round robin, before falling to Japan in the quarter finals. Following the mixed competition, Deschenes competed in Mixed Doubles with Oriol Gasto (Spain). Deschenes capped the 2020 season with a victory at the 2020 Ontario Winter Games. Susan Dudt (born November 8, 2002) is an American curler from Malvern, Pennsylvania. She is a two-time champion of the United States Junior Curling Championships, going on to win the bronze medal at the 2022 World Junior Curling Championships and the 2023 Winter World University Games. Career In 2015, Dudt competed in the playdowns for the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics with teammates Eli Clawson, Rane Anderson and Andrew Gittis. Rebecca Rodgers (born June 20, 2000, in Ventura, California) is an American curler originally from Leyden, Massachusetts, now living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She won the 2020 United States Junior Curling Championships and represented the U.S. at the 2023 Winter World University Games.
