2023 IIHF World Championship
The 2023 IIHF World Championship will be co-hosted by Tampere, Finland and Riga, Latvia. The tournament is scheduled to be held from 12 to 28 May 2023, and will be organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). Host nation bid The event was originally planned to be held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, but in February 2022 the International Olympic Committee (IOC) called for Russia and Belarus to be stripped of hosting rights to all international sporting events due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian invasion of Ukraine. On 26 April 2022, Russia lost their rights to host the World Championship. After being promoted to the top division, Slovenia and Hungary both bid to co-host the event in Ljubljana and Budapest. The bid was withdrawn due to Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation informing the IIHF that it did not receive the governmental guarantees to host. Nokia Arena (Tampere)
Nokia Arena (originally Tampere Deck Arena, fi, Tampereen Kannen areena) is an indoor arena in Tampere, Finland. It hosts ice hockey games, including the 2022 Men's World Championship, and large cultural events. It is also the home arena of Ilves and Tappara of the SM-liiga. Its construction was approved by the City Council of Tampere on May 19, 2010. The arena was officially opened on December 3, 2021. Sacha Treille (November 6, 1987) is a professional French ice hockey forward, currently playing in the HC Dynamo Pardubice in the Czech Extraliga (ELH). Treille formerly played in Sweden with Malmö Redhawks of the Swedish HockeyAllsvenskan. Timothé "Tim" Phillipe Bozon (born March 24, 1994) is an American-born French ice hockey left winger who is currently playing with Lausanne HC of the National League (NL). Bozon was born in St. Louis, Missouri, where his father, Philippe Bozon, played hockey for the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL), but was raised in France, where his father is from. André Willy Petersson (born September 11, 1990) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player, who is currently playing under contract with HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the 4th round (109th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
