2023 Hanoi Building Fire
On 12 September 2023, at around 23:30 ICT (UTC+07:00), a fire occurred in a nine-story microapartment building in the 29th alley of Khương Hạ street, Khương Đình ward, Thanh Xuân district, Hanoi, Vietnam. Of the approximately 150 people residing in the building, 56 were killed by the fire and 37 others were injured. It was the deadliest residential fire in Vietnam since the 2002 Ho Chi Minh City ITC fire. Fire The fire started around 23:30 ICT on the first floor of the nine-story building in a residential area southwest of Hanoi. The building housed more than 150 people. A woman who lived near the apartment said "The apartment is so closed with no escape route, impossible for the victims to get out." She said that she heard many people screaming for help, but wasn't able to provide assistance due to the severity of the fire. 2023 Johannesburg Building Fire
On 31 August 2023 at around 01:30 SAST, a fire engulfed an illegally occupied government-owned building in Johannesburg, South Africa; 77 people were killed and 88 others were injured. It was one of the deadliest fires in South African history. The building The building, 80 Albert Street, was built in 1954 as the head office of Johannesburg's Non-European Affairs Department, serving as a Pass Office for enforcing pass laws controlling the movement of black people into Johannesburg under the apartheid system. From 1994, the building housed a women's shelter later called the Usindiso Women's Shelter. On 6 September 2022, the An Phú karaoke bar in Thuận An Thuận An is a city of Bình Dương Province in the Southeast region of Vietnam. It is situated about northeast of the centre of Ho Chi Minh City.
