2023 Diamond League
The 2023 Diamond League was the 14th season of the annual series of outdoor track and field meetings, organised by World Athletics. The number of Diamond Discipline events is 32, and the series ended with a single final at the Prefontaine Classic, the first time the Diamond League finals were hosted in the United States. Each meeting hosted a number of Diamond Discipline events according to allocation, most of which were broadcast in a two-hour TV window. Schedule The following fourteen meetings were included in the 2023 season. Calendar changes Diamond League Shanghai was cancelled before the season due to delay on renovation of Shanghai Stadium. It would return to the calendar in 2024. On August 2, 2023, World Athletics signed a 10-year contract with the People's government of Xiamen to bring a second China meet to the calendar, replacing Shenzhen which was determined as the new stop before the COVID-19 pandemic. 2022 Diamond League
The 2022 Diamond League was the thirteenth season of the Diamond League, an annual series of outdoor track and field meetings, organised by World Athletics. The competition was a revision to the top level sport of athletics, athletics series since the Diamond League was founded in 2010. The number of Diamond Discipline events was 32, and the dual-meet final format was again replaced by a single final, for a total of 12 meetings. A meeting in China was originally added to the calendar, but was later postponed to 2023 Diamond League, 2023. The reduction of events was aimed at allowing a standardized 120-minute television format for the series. Each meeting hosted a selected number of Diamond Discipline events, most of which were broadcast in the meeting's two hour TV window. 2023 Meeting De Paris
The 2023 Meeting de Paris was the 28th edition of the annual outdoor track and field meeting in Paris, France. Held on 9 June at the Stade Sébastien Charléty, it was the fourth leg of the 2023 Diamond League – the highest level international track and field circuit. This was the fourth time the meeting was held on the stadium's renovated blue running track. BAUHAUS-galan
BAUHAUS-galan, formerly known as DN-Galan is an annual, international Sport of athletics, athletics meeting that takes place at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium, Olympic Stadium in Stockholm. Previously it was one of the five IAAF Super Grand Prix events until 2010, and has since been part of the Diamond League circuit. It was first organized in 1967. Having been known as the Dagens Nyheter, DN-Galan since its first edition, a title sponsor deal with DIY company Bauhaus (company), Bauhaus led to a rebranding of the event in 2015, following a period of financial instability for the organisers. Since 1967, the Dicksonpokalen (Dickson Trophy) is awarded to the winner of the men's 1500 metres or mile run at the competition. 2023 BAUHAUS-galan
The 2023 BAUHAUS-galan was the 57th edition of the annual outdoor track and field meeting in Stockholm, Sweden. Held on 2 July 2023 at Stockholm Olympic Stadium, it was the seventh leg of the 2023 Diamond League – the highest level international track and field circuit. The meeting was marred by heavy rain, causing parts of the competition to be delayed. During the 400 metres hurdles, climate movement protestors got onto the track and extended banners blocking lanes one through six, preventing all but the leader Karsten Warholm from finishing unimpeded. The protestors were part of the A22 Network group. Mondo Duplantis attempted to break his own world record in the pole vault several times, extending the competition hours after the meeting was originally scheduled to end. Stade Olympique De La Pontaise
Stade Olympique de la Pontaise is a multi-purpose stadium in Lausanne, Switzerland. The stadium holds 15,700 people and was opened in 1954. The stadium is used primarily for football matches. It is currently the home ground of FC Stade Lausanne Ouchy, of the Swiss Super League. The stadium also hosts the Diamond League event, the Athletissima. Athletissima
Athletissima is an annual athletics meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland. Previously one of the five IAAF Super Grand Prix events, it is now part of the Diamond League. The first edition was held on 8 July 1977 in the Stade Pierre de Coubertin. In 1986, the event was moved to the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise. UBS has been the main sponsor of Athletissima Lausanne since 1982. The 2023 Athletissima was the 47th edition of the annual outdoor athletics meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland. Held on 30 June at the Stade olympique de la Pontaise, it was the 6th leg of the 2023 Diamond Leaguethe highest level international track and field circuit. Just 15 days after two athletes ran 12:41 at the 2023 Bislett Games, Berihu Aregawi ran a new world lead of 12:40 in the 5000 metres, leading some to call 2023 the "year of the 5k". Oslo
Oslo ( or ; ) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. Bislett Stadium
Bislett Stadium () is a sports stadium in Oslo, Norway. Bislett is Norway's most well known sports arena internationally, with 15 speed skating world records and more than 50 track and field world records having been set here. The original stadium was demolished in 2004 and construction of a new stadium was completed by the summer of 2005. The New Bislett Stadium was designed by C.F. Møller Architects. History Bislett Stadium lies on the site of a 19th-century brick works, which was bought by the Municipality of Kristiania (Oslo) in 1898, and turned into a sports field in 1908. The merchant, speed skater, gymnast and sports organizer Martinus Lørdahl was instrumental in facilitating the construction of the first bleachers, begun in 1917 and completed in 1922 along with the new club house. Bislett Games
The Bislett Games is an annual track and field meeting at the Bislett Stadium in Oslo, Norway. Previously one of the IAAF Golden League events, it is now part of the Diamond League. History The first international athletics meeting at Bislett was held in 1924. Until 1937 the competitions are known as "The American Meetings", similar to the Weltklasse Zürich#History, international meetings in Zürich. Different organizers staged the meetings between 1947 and 1965 until the three athletics associations BUL, Vidar and Tjalve formed the Bislett Alliance. At this year Arne Haukvik founded the Bislett Games. He was a former politician and director of the meeting, who used to invite the athletes, sponsors and the press to his home for his traditional "strawberry party" the day before the event each year. The 2023 Bislett Games was the 58th edition of the annual outdoor track and field meeting in Oslo, Norway. Held on 15 June at Bislett Stadium, it was the sixth leg of the 2023 Diamond League – the highest level international track and field circuit. The highlight of the meeting was the men's 5000 metres, where Jacob Kiplimo and Yomif Kejelcha battled to the line in a photo finish with both runners being awarded a time of 12:41.73 seconds, but Kejelcha being deemed the winner. It was the first time in history that any person had ever run under 12:45 in the 5000 m while still being contested at the finish by another competitor. Reigning Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen set a personal best in the 1500 metres, running under 3:28 for the first time.
