2023 Credit One Charleston Open
The 2023 Charleston Open (branded as the 2023 Credit One Charleston Open for sponsorship reasons) was a professional women's tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island in Charleston, South Carolina. It was the 51st edition of the tournament on the WTA Tour and was classified as a WTA 500 tournament on the 2023 WTA Tour. It was the only event of the clay court season played on green clay. WTA 500 Tournaments
WTA 500 tournaments is a category of tennis tournaments in the Women's Tennis Association tour, implemented since the reorganization of the schedule in 2021. At their introduction in 2021, WTA 500 tournaments' prize money was approximately $500,000. Since then, prize money awarded by WTA 500 events has grown less uniform, with one tournament's prize money rising to as much as $1.5 million. The ranking points awarded to the winners of these tournaments are 500. This compares to 2,000 points for winning a Grand Slam tournament ("major"), up to 1,500 points for winning the WTA Finals, 1000 points for winning a WTA 1000 tournament, and 250 for winning a WTA 250 tournament. Jessica Pegula
Jessica Pegula (born February 24, 1994) is an American professional tennis player. She has career-high rankings in singles of world No. 3, achieved October 2022, and in doubles of world No. 1, set on 11 September 2023. Pegula reached the singles finals of the 2024 US Open and the 2023 WTA Finals. In doubles, she reached the final of the 2022 French Open, partnering with Coco Gauff, and the mixed doubles final of the 2023 US Open with Austin Krajicek. Pegula has won eight singles titles and seven doubles titles on the WTA Tour, including three WTA 1000 titles in singles and two in doubles. Irina-Camelia Begu (born 26 August 1990) is a Romanian tennis player. She reached a career-high WTA ranking, WTA singles ranking of world No. 22 , in August 2016.
