2023 Columbus, Ohio City Council Election
The 2023 Columbus City Council election was held on November 7, 2023, to elect the nine members of the Columbus City Council. Primary elections were scheduled for May 2, 2023, but were cancelled as no more than two candidates were placed on the ballot for any ward (the top two candidates in each ward would have advanced to the general election). Background This was the first municipal election to held under the new hybrid at-large council structure approved by Columbus voters in a 2018 referendum. Following this election, the total number of councillors was increased from seven to nine, each representing a single ward (as opposed to the at-large representation of previous councils). However, voters are able to select their preferred candidate in all nine wards, rather than only the ward in which they are registered to vote. Columbus City Council
The Columbus City Council is the lawmaking body of Columbus, Ohio. It has 7 members who are elected at-large. It meets in the City Council Chambers located on the second floor of Columbus City Hall. Starting in the 2023 election, City Council will expand to 9 members and be elected by district in a primary election and then at large in the November general election. In the 2023 election, all members will run for another term. Four members will only serve a two-year term while the other five will serve a four-year term. Shannon G. Hardin (born April 7, 1987) is the President of the Columbus, Ohio City Council. Hardin is a Columbus native, and attended Columbus Africentric K-8 and Columbus Alternative High School before attending Morehouse College in Atlanta.
