2023 Caribbean Premier League
The 2023 Caribbean Premier League (CPLT20) or for sponsorship reasons, Republic Bank CPL 2023 was the eleventh season of the Caribbean Premier League, the domestic Twenty20 cricket league that was played in the West Indies. The tournament was played from 16 August with final on 24 September 2023. The matches were played across five countries in the Caribbean: Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Guyana, Barbados, and Saint Lucia. The fixtures for the tournament were confirmed in April 2023. Jamaica Tallawahs were the defending champions. In the final, Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated Trinbago Knight Riders by 9 wickets to win their first title. Twenty20
Twenty20 (abbreviated T20) is a shortened format of cricket. At the professional level, it was introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003 for the county cricket, inter-county competition. In a Twenty20 game, the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of twenty over (cricket), overs. Together with First-class cricket, first-class and List A cricket, Twenty20 is one of the three forms of cricket recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as being played at the highest level, both internationally and domestically. A typical Twenty20 match lasts just over 3 hours, with each innings lasting around 90 minutes and an official 10-minute break between the innings. Jamaica Tallawahs
The franchise Jamaica Tallawahs was the representative team of Jamaica in the Caribbean Premier League of cricket. It was one of the six teams created in 2013 for the inaugural season of the tournament. In December 2023, it was announced that the team would not participate in CPL 2024 due to a lack of support from the Jamaican government. Instead, Antigua & Barbuda Falcons from Antigua would take its place, ending Jamaica's run in the CPL. The Jamaica Tallawahs played their home games at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. The Tallawahs won the inaugural tournament by defeating the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final at Queen's Park Oval, they also won the 2016 CPL season. Daren Sammy
Daren Julius Garvey Sammy SLC N.Pk (born 20 December 1983) is a Saint Lucian cricketer who played international cricket for the West Indies. He is currently serving as the head coach of the West Indies cricket team in limited overs cricket. On making his One-Day International (ODI) debut against Bangladesh in 2004, Sammy became the first person from the island of St Lucia to play international cricket. Three years later he made his Test debut against England, taking 7/66 which were the best bowling figures for a West Indian in his first Test since Alf Valentine in 1950. Sikandar Raza Butt (; born 24 April 1986) is a Pakistani-born Zimbabwean international cricketer. He is an all-rounder, who bats right-handed and bowls right arm off-spin. He made his international debut for Zimbabwe in May 2013 and is the first player from his country to score a T20I century. He is the current captain of Zimbabwe T20I team. Early life Raza was born in Sialkot to a Punjabi-speaking Kashmiri Muslim family. He studied at the Pakistan Air Force Public School Lower Topa for three years and aspired to be a Pakistan Air Force pilot, but his dreams were cut short when he failed a vision test that was mandatory for selection in the Pakistan airforce at that time. Saint Lucia Kings
The Saint Lucia Kings (formerly known as St Lucia Stars and St Lucia Zouks) are the representative team of Saint Lucia in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) of cricket. They were created in 2013 as one of the six teams for the inaugural season of the tournament. After minimal success in early seasons, the Kings won their first title in 2024, defeating the Guyana Amazon Warriors. They adopted their current moniker in 2021 after being acquired by the ownership of the IPL’s Punjab Kings. For the 2017 season, the franchise chose to rebrand under a new name and logo as the Saint Lucia Stars. In 2018, they finished fifth in Caribbean Premier League winning three out of their ten matches. In 2019, they finished fifth again and narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot. Simon Helmot
Simon Helmot (born 12 February 1972) is an Australian cricket coach, who was formerly the coach of the Melbourne Renegades. Simon Helmot began his coaching career early, taking the reins of the Hawthorn-Monash University Cricket Club in Melbourne at 25, while he was still a player. After retiring, Helmot took charge of the Under-19s at the Victorian Institute of Sport and then spent two years coaching the ACT Comets in the Cricket Australia Cup. He returned to Melbourne in 2007 to take up a role as Victoria Bushrangers high performance manager and coached the Australia A side that visited India in 2008. Evin Earl Lewis (born 27 December 1991) is a Trinidad and Tobago, Trinidadian cricket who used to also play for the West Indies cricket team, West Indies as a left-handed opening batsman. At most featuring in limited-overs internationals, he's the third batsman, after Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle, to score two Twenty20 International centuries. St Kitts & Nevis Patriots
The St Kitts & Nevis Patriots are a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) cricket franchise based in Saint Kitts and Nevis that participated in the competition for the first time in 2015. The team plays its home games at Warner Park, Basseterre, located on Saint Kitts, and, like the league's other franchises, draws the majority of its players from West Indian domestic teams. The league's first expansion team, the new franchise was announced on 27 January 2015, supported by the Saint Kitts and Nevis government as well as the local business community. During the 2014 CPL tournament, Warner Park hosted nine matches, played over 10 days in August and accompanied by several carnivals and other entertainments. Brandon Alexander King (born 16 December 1994) is a Jamaican cricketer. He was part of the West Indies' squad for the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his international debut for the West Indies cricket team in November 2019. Domestic career King plays for Jamaica in domestic cricket, debuting in first-class cricket in the 2014-15 Regional Four Day Competition, and List A cricket in the 2015-16 Regional Super50. Lance Klusener (born 4 September 1971) is an international cricket coach and former cricketer of South Africa. He was known for his aggressive batting and fast-medium swing bowling. Klusener was one of the best all-rounders in the world during 1990s and early 2000s and one of the pioneers of power batting as a finisher. Mohammad Imran Tahir (; born 27 March 1979) is a South African former international cricketer. A spin bowler who predominantly bowls googlies and a right-handed batsman, Tahir played for South Africa in all three formats of cricket.
