2023 Canada Winter Games
The 2023 Canada Winter Games, officially known as the XXVIII Canada Games, (or informally as PEI 2023) was a Canadian multi-sport event hosted mainly across Prince Edward Island, from February 18, 2023, to March 5, 2023. The skiing events were hosted in New Brunswick, and the skating events were held in Nova Scotia. Bidding As part of the rotation of Canada Games hosts, the Northwest Territories with (Yellowknife) were scheduled to host the games for the first time ever. However, in September 2016, The Northwest Territories and Prince Edward Island agreed to swap bidding years (with the former now eligible to bid for 2031). In November 2018, the island officially won its bid to host the games. Venues A total of 18 venues (16 in Prince Edward Island, one each in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick) staged the competitions. Tignish, Prince Edward Island
Tignish is a Canadian town located in Prince County, Prince Edward Island. It is located approximately northwest of the city of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Summerside, and northwest of the city of Charlottetown. It has a population of 719. The name "Tignish" is derived from the Mi'kmaq "Mtagunich", meaning "paddle". The name is also believed to come from a Gaelic phrase meaning “Home Place”. O'Leary, Prince Edward Island
O'Leary is a village located in Prince County, Prince Edward Island, about 60 kilometers west of Summerside. Its population in the 2021 Canadian Census was 876 people. O'Leary was incorporated as a village in 1951, and as a community in 1983. History Michael O'Leary The village is named after Michael O'Leary, an Irish settler who arrived in Prince Edward Island in 1837. Michael O'Leary settled with his wife in what is now the town of O'Leary. Stratford, Prince Edward Island
Stratford is a town located in Queens County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Situated immediately southeast of the city of Charlottetown, Stratford recorded a population of 10,927 in the 2021 census. North Rustico
North Rustico is a Canadian town located in Queens County, Prince Edward Island, Queens County, Prince Edward Island. Situated on the north shore, North Rustico became an incorporated municipality in 1954. North Rustico changed its status to a town on November 16, 2013. The town is known to locals, as well as many others as "The Crick". Its population as of the 2021 Canadian Census, 2021 Census was 648 people.
