2023 Boston Pizza Cup
The 2023 Boston Pizza Cup, the provincial men's curling championship for Alberta, was held February 8 to 12 at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alberta. The winning Kevin Koe rink represented Alberta at the 2023 Tim Hortons Brier in London, Ontario where after placing second in Pool A with a 7–1 record, they lost in the Championship round semifinal to Ontario 9–8. Additionally, two other rinks qualified for the Brier as wild card teams based on CTRS standings. The Brendan Bottcher rink was the Wild Card #1 representative while the Karsten Sturmay rink was the Wild Card #3 representative. The Bottcher rink would end up with a bronze medal finish losing to eventual runner-up Manitoba in the semifinal 7–5. The Sturmay rink finished sixth in Pool B with a 3–5 record. CTRS Standings
The Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) is a point system used by Curling Canada to rank men's and women's curling teams across Canada. They are determined through points earned in various curling bonspiels held worldwide throughout the season. CTRS points are the basis of the World Curling Tour's Order of Merit and are also used as criteria in identifying teams that qualify for the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. Beginning in 2018, the top two CTRS teams that do not otherwise qualify for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts or Tim Hortons Brier will earn the right to compete in a play-in game for a wildcard berth in those tournaments. Brett Gallant
Brett Philip Gallant (born February 18, 1990 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) is a Canadian curler from Calgary. He currently plays second for the Brendan Bottcher rink. Career Juniors Gallant has represented Prince Edward Island in the Canadian Junior Curling Championships numerous times, winning the 2009 Canadian Junior Curling Championships on his fourth attempt. Gallant won five straight provincial titles in P.E.I. from 2006 to 2010. He holds the record for most all-time wins at the Canadian Juniors (48), which he set after his second win at the 2010 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. At the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships, Gallant represented Team Canada, and after placing first after the round-robin, lost in the final to Denmark's Rasmus Stjerne rink. Marc Kennedy
Marc Kennedy (born February 5, 1982) is a Canadian curler, and Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic gold medallist from St. Albert, Alberta. In 2019, Kennedy was named the greatest Canadian male second in history in a TSN poll of broadcasters, reporters and top curlers. Career Kennedy was born in St. Albert, Alberta, the son of Don and Connie. He started curling at age six. He is a Canadian Winter Games champion and three-time provincial junior champion. He won his first provincial men's championship with Kevin Martin in 2007. As a junior, he played second for Carter Rycroft at the 1998 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and played third for Jeff Erickson at the 1999 and 2001 Canadian Juniors. Warren Kozak (curler)
Warren Kozak (born 1951) is an American journalist and author. His writing appears frequently on the OpEd pages of ''The Wall Street Journal'', the ''New York Sun'' and other newspapers and magazines. He was an on-air reporter at National Public Radio and wrote for television network anchors including Ted Koppel, Charles Gibson, Diane Sawyer and Aaron Brown. Personal life and education Warren Kozak was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he attended public schools, graduating from John Marshall High School. Parker Konschuh
Parker Konschuh (born April 10, 1991) is a Canadian curler from Edmonton, Alberta. Konschuh skipped a team composed of third Craig Bourgonje, second Jacob Ortt, and lead Mackenzie Walton out of the Saville Community Centre in Edmonton, AB. He previously threw second rocks for the Edmonton-based Mick Lizmore rink, appearing in the Men's Provincial semifinal in 2015. He was a member of the gold medal winning Canadian Junior Team at the 2012 World Junior Curling Championships. Konschuh's only provincial junior title came in 2011, playing second for Colin Hodgson. At the 2011 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, they represented Alberta and finished the round robin with a 6–6 record. Ryan Jacques
Ryan Jacques (born June 19, 2000) is a Canadian curler from Edmonton, Alberta. He is currently the skip of the Alberta Golden Bears men's curling team in university curling and on the World Curling Tour. Jacques was slated to represent Canada at the 2021 World Junior Curling Championships in Beijing, China, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Curling career Jacques won two provincial U18 championships, in 2016 and 2018. Warren Cross
A warren is a network of wild rodent or lagomorph, typically rabbit burrows. Domestic warrens are artificial, enclosed establishment of animal husbandry dedicated to the raising of rabbits for meat and fur. The term evolved from the medieval Anglo-Norman concept of free warren, which had been, essentially, the equivalent of a hunting license for a given woodland. Kyler Kleibrink
Kyler Kleibrink (born October 1, 1995) is a Canadian curler from Calgary, Alberta. He currently skips his own team. Career Kleibrink joined the Jeremy Harty rink at third with second Joel Berger and lead Gregg Hamilton for the 2015–16 season. Before joining the team, he skipped his own team, however, was unable to win an Alberta Junior Championship. The team competed in the 2016 Alberta Junior Curling Championships where they went undefeated until the final where they lost to the Karsten Sturmay rink 7–4. The next season, Kleibrink left the team as they aged out of juniors and formed his own team to try to capture the 2017 Alberta Junior Championship. He skipped his team of Mark Taylor, Tyler van Amsterdam and Connor Lenton to a semifinal finish where they would lose to eventual champions Colton Goller.
