2023 Berlin Thunder Season
The 2023 Berlin Thunder season is the third season of the Berlin Thunder team in the European League of Football. Preseason After missing the play-offs in the last game of 2022, the franchise extended the contracts of head coach Johnny Schmuck and defensive coordinator Christopher Kuhfeldt. The first roster move of the season was resigning team and league defensive player of the 2022 season Kyle Kitchens. Homegrown talent Max Zimmermann was the first new signing for the Berlin Thunder. Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark
The Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark is a multi-purpose sports complex located in the western part of the locality of Prenzlauer Berg in the borough of Pankow in Berlin. The sports complex covers an area of approximately 22 hectares and comprises several facilities. The main building is the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Stadion. The stadium is the third-largest stadium in Berlin, after the Olympiastadion and the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, with a capacity of approximately 20,000 seats, of which 15,000 are covered. Currently, the main tenants are FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin and Berlin Thunder. Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark was the venue for the 2018 World Para Athletics European Championships. Berlin Thunder (ELF)
The Berlin Thunder are an American football team in Berlin, Germany. They play in the European League of Football (ELF) northern conference. History On 22 March 2021, the Berlin Thunder were announced as one of the eight teams to play in the inaugural season of the European League of Football. Their first game was against the Leipzig Kings on 20 June 2021. After the 2021 season the contract of head coach Jag Bal wasn't extended. On September 12, 2021 it was announced that former NFL 1st-round draft pick Björn Werner became co-owner and director of football operations of the franchise. Shortly after, then general manager Heiko von Glahn left the franchise and was succeeded by the first female general manager of the league with Diana Hoge. The European League of Football (ELF) is a professional American football league. The league (as of the 2023 season) consists of 17 teams located in Germany, Poland, Spain, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, Czech Republic and France, with plans to expand to 24 teams in 2025. Kyle Kitchens
Kyle Kitchens (born January 25, 1996) is an American football defensive end playing for the Berlin Thunder in the European League of Football. He played college football for the Catawba Indians. Early life and college career Kitchens attended Decatur High School, where he played lacrosse, basketball and baseball, besides American football for the Bulldogs. He was named two-times All-State player and was selected for the All-Region team. For the 2014 college football season he committed to Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina in the NCAA Division II. There he quickly became a starter and core player in the team. He was the second overall defensive player to be named AFCA All-American Team three times in a row in NCAA Division II history. With his team, he won his conference in 2015. Max Zimmermann
August Maximilian Zimmermann, painter and lithographer, was born at Zittau, in Saxony on 7 July 1811. His father, the impresario Karl Friedrich August Zimmermann, brought him up as a musician, but in his leisure he practised lithography.
