2023 Asia Cup Final
The 2023 Asia Cup Final was the final of the 2023 Asia Cup, a One Day International cricket tournament, and was played on 17 September 2023 in R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Sri Lanka were the defending champions. India beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to win their eighth title. Sri Lanka's total of 50 is the lowest total in any ODI tournament final. Background In June 2020, following a meeting with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said they would be willing to let Sri Lanka host the 2020 Asia Cup, with India unwilling to travel to Pakistan. The ACC issued a press release following the meeting stating that "in light of the impact and consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, possible venue options for the Asia Cup 2020 were discussed and it was decided to take the final decision in due course". David Clarence Boon (born 29 December 1960) is an Australian cricket match referee, former cricket commentator and Australian cricket team, international cricketer whose international playing career spanned the years 1984–1996. A right-handed batsman and a very occasional off-spin Bowler (cricket), bowler, he played first-class cricket for both his home state Tasmania Tigers, Tasmania and English county cricket, county side Durham. Match Referee
A match referee is an official appointed to oversee professional cricket matches. Match referees for Test matches and One Day Internationals are appointed by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Most matches below international level do not have a referee. The match referee's responsibility is to ensure that the ICC Cricket Code of Conduct is upheld during the game, to assess any breaches of the Code, and to hand out penalties for any breaches. Following every game, the match referee composes and submits a match report to the ICC, noting any events or actions by players or umpires that may be a concern in terms of the Code of Conduct or the Laws of Cricket, and giving ratings to the quality of the pitch. Jayaraman Madanagopal (born 7 November 1974) is an Indian cricket umpire and former first-class cricketer. Having officiated in matches in the Ranji Trophy, Madanagopal stood in his first Twenty20 International (T20I), between India and New Zealand, on 19 November 2021. The fourth umpire (sometimes referred to as the reserve umpire), is a cricket umpire. The third umpire (or TV Umpire) is an off- field umpire used in some cricket matches, particularly international matches. Their role is to make the final decision in questions referred to them by the two on-field umpires or the players. The third umpire is also there to act as an emergency on-field umpire if required.
