2023 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship
The 2023 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 93rd staging of the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. The championship ran from 21 March to 4 June 2023. Tipperary entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they failed to qualify for the All-Ireland series after losing three games in the Munster Championship. Kerry and Galway moved province to join the Leinster Championship. The All-Ireland final was played at FBD Semple Stadium in Thurles on 4 June 2023 between Clare and Galway, in what was their first meeting in a final in 26 years. Clare won the match by 2-22 to 4-11 to claim their second championship title overall and their first title since 1997. Galway's Aaron Niland was the championship's top scorer with 4-72. Brian O'Connell (hurler)
Brian O'Connell (born 17 February 1984) is an Irish former hurler and manager. At club level he played with Wolfe Tones, and also lined out at inter-county level with various Clare teams. O'Connell has been the Clare minor hurling team manager since 2021. Playing career Born in Shannon, County Clare, O'Connell first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Wolfe Tones club. He eventually progressed to adult level and won a Clare SHC medal after a defeat of Newmarket-on-Fergus in 2006. O'Connell first appeared on the inter-county scene with Clare as a member of the minor team in 2002. He later spent three consecutive seasons with the under-21 team. O'Connell was drafted onto the senior team in 2003 and served as captain for three consecutive seasons, including during Clare's 2008 Munster final defeat by Tipperary. The 1997 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 67th staging of the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. The championship began on 23 April 1997 and ended on 14 September 1997. Tipperary GAA, Tipperary entered the championship as the 1996 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship, defending champions, however, they were defeated by Galway GAA, Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final. On 14 September 1997 Clare GAA, Clare won the championship following a 1-11 to 1-9 defeat of Galway in the All-Ireland final. It was their first All-Ireland title and the first to be won by a team which was beaten in the earlier rounds. Kilkenny's Henry Shefflin was the championship's top scorer with 5-20. Wexford Park
Chadwicks Wexford Park is a GAA stadium in Wexford, County Wexford, Republic of Ireland. It is the home of Wexford GAA's Gaelic football and hurling teams. After a recent development the ground has a capacity of about 18,000. It is located in the Clonard area on the outskirts of Wexford Town, and although the ground does not have floodlights it regularly hosts evening matches during the brighter summer months.
