2023 AFC Asian Cup Group A
Group A of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup took place from 12 to 22 January 2024. The group consisted of hosts, defending and eventual champions Qatar national football team, Qatar, China national football team, China, tournament debutants Tajikistan national football team, Tajikistan, and Lebanon national football team, Lebanon. The top two teams, Qatar and Tajikistan, advanced to the round of 16. Teams Notes Standings Matches Qatar vs Lebanon The match was originally scheduled to take place at Al Bayt Stadium, Al Khor (city), Al Khor. However, the Asian Football Confederation, AFC confirmed in 21 August 2023 that the match would be moved to Lusail Stadium, Lusail due to significant interest for fans. This was the sides' second straight fixture in the tournament, having also met in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, previous edition, which was won by Qatar 2–0. 2023 AFC Asian Cup
The 2023 AFC Asian Cup was the 18th edition of the AFC Asian Cup, the quadrennial international Association football, football tournament organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). It involved 24 national teams after its expansion in 2019 AFC Asian Cup, 2019, with hosts Qatar national football team, Qatar the defending champions. On 17 October 2022, the AFC announced that the tournament would be held in Qatar, replacing the original hosts China. Due to the high summer temperatures and Qatar's participation in the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the tournament was postponed to 12 January – 10 February 2024, while retaining the original name for both existing sponsorship and logistical purposes. The 2023 tournament were the second of three consecutive Asian Cup to be held in Middle East, following the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in United Arab Emirates and preceding the 2027 AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia. Al Khor (city)
Al Khor () is a coastal city in northeast Qatar, located north of the capital Doha. Considered one of Qatar's largest cities, it is the capital city of the Municipalities of Qatar, municipality of Al Khor, Al Khor and Al Thakhira. Hassan Al-Haydos
Hassan Khalid Hassan Al-Haydos (; born 11 December 1990) is a Qatari professional footballer who plays as a forward for and captains Qatar Stars League club Al Sadd. Club career Al-Haydos started playing football for Al Sadd at the age of eight, advancing through the ranks until he reached the first team at age seventeen. He had support and guidance early on from Jafal Rashed Al-Kuwari.
