2022–23 Kenyan Premier League
The 2022–23 Kenyan Premier League was the 20th season of the Kenyan Premier League since it began in 2003, and the 60th season of top-division football in Kenya since 1963. The season was set to commence on 24 September, however, an ongoing technical dispute with FIFA pushed the start to 19 November 2022. Team Changes APS Bomet and Fortune SACCO gained promotion to the Premier League from the 2021–22 National Super League, with Mathare United and Vihiga United being relegated. Kenyan Premier League
The Kenyan Premier League (KPL), officially known as the FKF Premier League, is a professional league for men's football clubs in Kenya. Standing at the top of the Kenyan football league system, the league was formed in 1963 under the Kenya Football Federation but is now controlled by the Football Kenya Federation. It is contested by 18 clubs and operates on a promotion and relegation system with the Kenyan National Super League. Gor Mahia are the current champions having won the 2023–24 season. The league was mostly stable until the late 1990s and since then its performance had been considered below average, with many of the league's clubs having little or no finances to support themselves. However, when SuperSport became an official league partner, the league has taken on a more serious role with teams becoming professional and the majority of the clubs managing to get kit sponsorships. Nairobi City Stars is a professional football club based in Nairobi, Kenya that currently competes in the first tier Kenyan Premier League. History The club was founded in 2003 as World Hope Football Club after a majority of players followed head coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno from relegated Kawangware United. The club was formed and owned by World Hope International, a charitable organization. After one season in the Nationwide League, World Hope was promoted to the Kenyan Premier League. In October 2008, the club was bought by Ambassadors in Sport (AIS Kenya), who renamed the club to Nairobi City Stars FC after the 2008 season.
