The 2022–23 season was the 121st season in the existence of Excelsior Rotterdam and the club's first season back in the top flight of Dutch football. In addition to the domestic league, Excelsior Rotterdam participated in this season's edition of the KNVB Cup. Excelsior Rotterdam, commonly known as Excelsior, is a Dutch professional football club based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. They play in the Eredivisie, the top tier of Dutch football from the 2022–23 season following promotion. The club was founded on 23 July 1902 and was formerly known as "Rotterdamse Voetbal en Atletiek Vereniging Excelsior" (Rotterdam Football and Athletics Club Excelsior). Redouan El Yaakoubi
Redouan El Yaakoubi (born 25 January 1996) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Eredivisie club Excelsior. Club career El Yaakoubi played in the youth academy of USV Elinkwijk. In 2015, he joined Hoofdklasse club VV De Meern. With De Meern, El Yaakoubi promoted to the Derde Divisie. In May 2017, after having initially decided to move to DVS '33, El Yaakoubi opted to sign for FC Utrecht led by manager Erik ten Hag. He made his Eerste Divisie debut for Jong FC Utrecht on 25 August 2017 in a game against FC Dordrecht. Norbert Alblas (born 12 December 1994) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays for Eredivisie club Excelsior as a goalkeeper. Club career Ajax On 8 August 2013, Alblas signed a one-year contract with Ajax, with an option of a one-year extension. He made his professional debut for Jong Ajax in an Eerste Divisie match against Fortuna Sittard on 16 August 2014. On 27 October 2014, a day before the KNVB Cup match against SV Urk, Ajax manager Frank de Boer announced that Alblas was part of the first-team match squad. This was the first time for Alblas that he was included in the first team. Maxime Aglago Awoudja (born 2 February 1998) is a German professional association football, footballer who plays as a centre-back for Regionalliga Nordost club FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, Rot-Weiß Erfurt. Sven Nieuwpoort (born 13 April 1993) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a right back for Excelsior in the Eredivisie. Club career Ajax Sven Nieuwpoort joined the youth ranks of Ajax in 2003 at the age of 10.
