2022 Winnipeg Municipal Election
The 2022 Winnipeg municipal election took place on October 26, 2022. The offices of mayor of Winnipeg, mayor, Winnipeg City Council, city councillors, and school trustees of the city of Winnipeg were elected as a result of this election. Elections were held as part of 2022 Manitoba municipal elections, municipal elections held across the province. The elections were held under first-past-the-post voting. Mayoral election The incumbent mayor, Brian Bowman (politician), Brian Bowman, announced on October 23, 2020, that he would not be running for a third term. He said that he was not a career politician, and that he had no plans for a future in politics. Scott Gillingham was elected mayor with just over 27% of the vote. Brian Bowman (politician)
Brian Thomas Douglas Bowman (born August 18, 1971) is a Canadians, Canadian politician, lawyer, and judge, who was the 43rd mayor of Winnipeg from 2014 to 2022. He was first elected in the 2014 Manitoba municipal elections, 2014 municipal election and was re-elected mayor for a second term in October 2018, increasing his plurality from 47% in the last election to a majority of 53%. Bowman was sworn in as a judge of the Court of King's Bench of Manitoba in March 2024. Early and personal life Bowman is a self-identified Métis, and is the first mayor of Aboriginal peoples of Canada, aboriginal descent in the city's history. Russ Wyatt (born 1970) is a Canadian politician in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He represented Transcona on the Winnipeg City Council from 2002 to 2018, and is the incumbent. And at times he served as a member of the city's executive policy committee. His father, Reg Wyatt, was a councillor from 1983 to 1986.
