2022 South American Games
The XII South American Games (Spanish language, Spanish: ''XII Juegos Suramericanos Asunción 2022'') was a multi-sport event held between 1–15 October 2022 in Asunción, Paraguay. The Games were organized by the South American Sports Organization, the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, the government of the Republic of Paraguay and the local Secretaria Nacional de Deportes, National Secretary of Sports. Bidding process The city of Asunción, capital of Paraguay, announced its interest in hosting the 2022 South American Games. In September 2017, Camilo Pérez López Moreira, president of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, reported that he had the endorsement of then-President Horacio Cartes to be able to present the ''Asunción 2022'' candidacy. According to López, an investment of USD 25 million was required. Meanwhile, it was speculated that the Argentine city of Rosario, Argentina, Rosario would also present its candidacy. Asunción (, ) is the capital and the largest city of Paraguay. The city stands on the eastern bank of the Paraguay River, almost at the confluence of this river with the Pilcomayo River. Mariano Roque Alonso () is a district and city located in the Central Department of Paraguay, in the Gran Asunción metropolitan area. The city has a population of approximately 85,000 people. The city was founded in 1944 and is located between the Paraguay River and the Transchaco Road, approximately 18 kilometers away from the city of Asunción. This optimal location has allowed the city to experience rapid commercial, industrial, and social development. The town is known for the fact that, on the afternoon of February 4, 1996, LAC Colombia Flight 028 crashed while taking off from Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, killing four crew members and eighteen people on the ground. Artistic swimming competitions at the 2022 South American Games in Asunción, Paraguay are scheduled to be held between October 7 and 9, 2022 at the Centro Acuático Nacional. A women's team and duet competition was contested. A total of seven NOC's entered teams into one or both competitions. The top two teams in each event qualified for the 2023 Pan American Games Artistic swimming competitions (duet and team), along with the host nation Chile.
