The 2022 Rio Grande Valley FC Toros season was the 7th season for Rio Grande Valley FC Toros in USL Championship (USLC), the second-tier professional association football, soccer league in the United States soccer league system, United States and Canadian soccer league system, Canada. Rio Grande Valley FC Toros
Rio Grande Valley FC, also known as RGVFC or Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, was an American professional soccer team based in Edinburg, Texas, Edinburg, Texas operated by Lone Star, LLC. They joined the USL Championship in the 2016 season. The team served as a hybrid affiliate of the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer. Chris Canetti, Houston Dynamo president, called the relationship "an important and necessary step." The hybrid affiliation, a first for the USL, meant that the Dynamo would be responsible for the soccer operation of the club, selecting players and coaching staff. The ownership group, Lone Star, was responsible for operations and day-to-day management of the club. Ricardo "Ricky" Ruiz (born November 4, 1996) is an American professional soccer player who plays for USL Championship club El Paso Locomotive. Career College & Amateur Ruiz played four years of college soccer at the University of California, Riverside between 2014 and 2017. During his time with the Highlanders, Ruiz made 75 appearances, scoring 6 goals and tallying 12 assists. Emilio Ycaza (born 10 July 1997) is an American soccer player who plays as a midfielder for USL Championship side Charleston Battery. Career Reno 1868 Prior to the 2020 season, Ycaza signed with USL Championship club Reno 1868. Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium (formerly H-E-B Park) is a stadium in Edinburg, Texas. It served as the home of Rio Grande Valley FC Toros of the USL Championship from 2017 to 2023, and currently serves as the home of the UTRGV Vaqueros football, UTRGV Vaqueros football team. Alejandro Enriquez Fuenmayor Castillo (born 29 August 1996) is a Venezuelan professional footballer who plays as a defender for Phoenix Rising FC of the USL Championship. Lindokuhle Mfeka (born 29 March 1994) is a South African soccer player who plays for Oakland Roots in the USL Championship. Career College Mfeka played four years of college soccer at the University of South Florida between 2013 and 2016. He spent a brief period with USL PDL side Reading United in 2016.
