2022 Queensland Darts Masters
The 2022 PalmerBet Queensland Darts Masters was the first staging of the tournament by the Professional Darts Corporation, and the fourth entry in the 2022 World Series of Darts. The tournament featured 16 players (eight 'elite' PDC players and eight regional qualifiers) and was held at the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre in Townsville, Australia on 12–13 August 2022. Townsville Entertainment And Convention Centre
Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre is an indoor sports arena located in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. The capacity of the arena is 5,257 and was built in 1993. Tenants From 1993 until the end of the 2013–14 NBL season, the centre was the home arena of the Townsville Crocodiles basketball team. During Crocodiles games, the venue was commonly referred to as "The Swamp". Due to a downturn in attendance figures, the Crocs played at the Townsville RSL Stadium during the 2014–15 NBL season. In May 2015, the Crocodiles announced they would be returning to "The Swamp" for the 2015–16 season. In 2021, the centre is set to become the new home arena for the Townsville Fire women's basketball team, ahead of the 2021–22 WNBL season. 2020 World Series Of Darts
The 2020 World Series of Darts was a series of planned televised darts tournaments organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. In 2020, there were set to be 5 World Series events and one finals event, which for 2020 was moved from Amsterdam, Netherlands to Salzburg, Austria. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic no events were held before the 2020 finals, with five scheduled events postponed to 2021. Two new venues were due to make their debuts with New York City replacing Las Vegas for the US Darts Masters, and Copenhagen being the venue for the inaugural 2020 Nordic Darts Masters, which replaced the German Darts Masters. The two Australian events were moved to new cities in Wollongong and Townsville. Gordon Mathers
Gordon Glen Mathers (born 29 September 1981) is a professional Australian darts player. He currently plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. In 2017 he finished top of the DPA Australian Pro Tour ranking table, and made his World Championship debut in the 2018 event. In the preliminary round he faced Japanese Seigo Asada, to whom he lost 1-2 in sets. In 2018, Mathers continued playing in Australia on the DPA circuit, winning a tournament in Hobart and making it to the final on two other occasions. In August he played in the Brisbane Masters, a tournament under PDC World Series of Darts, where he lost in the first round 1-6 to Raymond van Barneveld. Simon Whitlock
Simon Whitlock (born 3 March 1969) is an Australian professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) tournaments, having also played in the British Darts Organisation (BDO) between 2004 and 2009. He uses the nickname The Wizard for his matches. His walk-on music is "Down Under" by Men at Work. His greatest achievements to date are winning the 2012 European Championship and 2022 World Cup of Darts for Australia with Damon Heta. Whitlock has also finished runner-up at the 2008 BDO World Darts Championship and the 2010 PDC World Darts Championship. Damon Heta
Damon Heta (born 10 August 1987) is an Australian professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He won the Brisbane Darts Masters in 2019 and also, in pair with Simon Whitlock, World Cup of Darts in 2022. His nickname is "The Heat", a play on letters within his surname. Joe Cullen (born 13 July 1989) is an English professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He won three Youth Tour tournaments in his early career and has qualified for the PDC World Championship twelve times, winning only thrice in the first round. Jonny Clayton (born 4 October 1974) is a Welsh professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Fallon Sherrock (born 2 July 1994) is an English professional darts player who plays in World Darts Federation (WDF) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events.
