2022 New Mexico Elections
A general election was held in the U.S. state of New Mexico on November 8, 2022. Federal elections U.S. House of Representatives State elections Governor Incumbent governor Michelle Lujan Grisham ran for reelection to a second term. She defeated the Republican candidate, former TV meteorologist Mark Ronchetti, with 52.0% of the vote. Attorney general Incumbent attorney general Hector Balderas was term-limited and ineligible to seek reelection. New Mexico Public Regulation Commission
The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission or NMPRC is an independent state agency created by the New Mexico Constitution. It is charged with ensuring safe operations and reliable utility services at fair, just, and reasonable rates consistent with the State’s legal, economic, environmental, and social policies. Judith Nakamura
Judith Nakamura (born November 3, 1960) is an American judge and former chief justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court. She was appointed to the court by New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez in 2015, and was re-elected in November 2016. Early life Nakamura was born and raised in New Mexico. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico in 1983 and a Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1989. Career After graduating from college, she served as a political director for the Republican Party of New Mexico and as a staffer for U.S. Senator Pete Domenici. After law school, Nakamura was an attorney in private practice, and for New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands. Judicial career Nakamura was elected as a judge on the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court in 1998, and served as Chief Judge of that court from 2002 to 2013. New Mexico Supreme Court
The New Mexico Supreme Court () is the highest court in the U.S. state of New Mexico. It is established and its powers defined by Article VI of the New Mexico Constitution. It is primarily an appellate court which reviews civil and criminal decisions of New Mexico's trial courts of general jurisdiction and certain specialized legislative courts, only having original jurisdiction in a limited number of actions. It currently resides in the New Mexico Supreme Court Building in Santa Fe. An independent politician or non-affiliated politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or Bureaucracy, bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party and therefore they choose not to affiliate with them. New Mexico Republican Party
The Republican Party of New Mexico is the affiliate of the United States Republican Party in New Mexico. It is headquartered in Albuquerque and led by chairperson Amy Barela, vice chair Hessel Yntema, secretary Kathleen Apodaca, and treasurer Kim Skaggs. Joseph Maestas
Joseph Maestas (born 1960/1961) is an American politician and engineer who is the current Auditor of New Mexico. He previously served as a member of the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission. Elected in 2020, he assumed office on January 1, 2021, succeeding Valerie Espinoza. He announced his candidacy for State Auditor on July 19, 2021. He was elected in 2022 and assumed office in January 2023, succeeding Brian Colón. Early life and education Maestas was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and raised on a farm in Santa Cruz, New Mexico.
