2022 Lalitpur Municipal Election
2022 Nepalese local elections, Municipal election for Lalitpur, Nepal, Lalitpur took place on 13 May 2022, with all 147 positions up for election across 29 wards. The electorate elected a mayor, a deputy mayor, 29 ward chairs and 116 ward members. An indirect election will also be held to elect five female members and an additional three female members from the Dalit and minority community to the Local government in Nepal#Local level, municipal executive. Chiri Babu Maharjan of Nepali Congress was re-elected, winning 56.5% of the votes. Background Lalitpur was established as a municipality in 1953. The metropolitan city was created in 2017 by incorporating wards 1 to 13 of Karyabinayak municipality into Lalitpur sub-metropolitan city. The Bibeksheel Sajha Party (Nepali language, Nepali: विवेकशील साझा पार्टी) is a political party in Nepal. It was the sixth largest party of Nepal by popular vote after 2017 Nepalese general election and the fifth largest party in Provincial Assembly of Bagmati Province, Bagmati provincial assembly. A municipal election for Kathmandu took place on 13 May 2022, with all 162 positions up for election across 32 wards. The electorate elected a mayor, a deputy mayor, 32 ward chairs and 128 ward members. An indirect election will also be held to elect five female members and an additional three female members from the Dalit and minority community to the municipal executive. Background Kathmandu was established as a municipality in 1919. After the formulation of the 1951 Municipality Act, the first municipal elections were held in Nepal and Janakman Shrestha became the first elected mayor of Kathmandu. Ramesh Prasad Kharel () is a policeman from Nepal known for his integrity and fight against corruption within the Nepali Police Force. History Formation Formerly known as Alliance for Independent Madhesh, it was formed by former secessionist leader C. K. Raut.
