Kentucky (, ), officially the Commonwealth of Kentucky, is a landlocked state in the Southeastern region of the United States. Elections in the U.S. state of Kentucky are held regularly. Politics in Kentucky has historically been very competitive. The state leaned toward the Democratic Party during the 1860s after the Whig Party dissolved. During the Civil War, the southeastern part of the state aligned with the Union and tended to support Republican candidates thereafter, while the central and western portions remained heavily Democratic even into the following decades. Kentucky would be part of the Democratic Solid South until the mid-20th century. Since 1952, voters in the Commonwealth supported the three Democratic candidates elected to the White House, all from Southern states: Lyndon B. Johnson from Texas in 1964, Jimmy Carter from Georgia in 1976, and Bill Clinton from Arkansas in 1992 and 1996. Louisville Metro Council
The Louisville Metro Council is the city council of Louisville, Kentucky (Louisville Metro). It was formally established in January 2003 upon the merger of the former City of Louisville with Jefferson County and replaced the city's Board of Aldermen and the county's Fiscal Court (three county commissioners). Louisville City Hall houses the offices and chambers of the council. Louisville's Metro Council consists of twenty-six seats corresponding to districts apportioned by population throughout Jefferson County. Although all cities in Jefferson County, apart from Louisville, retained their status after the merger, their residents are represented on Metro Council and vote alongside other county residents. 2022 Lexington, Kentucky Mayoral Election
Lexington, Kentucky held nonpartisan elections for mayor on May 17, 2022, and November 8, 2022. It saw the re-election of Republican Linda Gorton, who had been serving as mayor since January 6, 2019. Campaigns Prior to the election, candidates addressed issues of violent crime, cost of living, and housing affordability. Funding Linda Gorton's campaign was funded by a variety of industries. The largest contribution came from the equine industry, which is prominent in Kentucky as a whole and Lexington in particular. David Kloiber's campaign was mostly self- and family-funded, with the vast majority coming in the form of loaning funds to the campaign. 2022 Louisville Mayoral Election
The 2022 Louisville mayoral election was the sixth quadrennial Louisville Metro mayoral election, held on November 8, 2022. Incumbent Democratic mayor Greg Fischer was term-limited and could not seek reelection to a fourth term in office. On February 14, 2022, mayoral candidate Craig Greenberg survived an assassination attempt. The suspected assassin was a racial justice activist seen at George Floyd protests in 2020, but it is unclear if the attempted assassination was motivated by political beliefs. Controversy ensued when the Louisville Community Bail Fund subsequently posted a $100,000 bond for his release. On May 17, 2022, the primary election was held. Kentucky District Courts
The Kentucky District Courts are the state courts of limited jurisdiction in the U.S. state of Kentucky. Jurisdiction and bench The District Courts are trial courts of limited jurisdiction that hear misdemeanor criminal cases, traffic violations, violations of county and municipal ordinances and small claims. They also have concurrent jurisdiction with the family court division of the Circuit Court over proceedings involving domestic violence and abuse, the Uniform Parentage Act and Uniform Interstate Family Support Act, dependency, child abuse and neglect, and juvenile status offenses.
