The year began with another wave in the COVID-19 pandemic, with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant, Omicron spreading rapidly and becoming the dominant variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus worldwide. The global economic recovery from the pandemic continued, though many countries experienced an ongoing 2021–2023 inflation surge, inflation surge; in response, many central banks raised their interest rates to landmark levels. Changi Beach Park
Changi Beach Park is a beach park located at the northern tip of Changi in the eastern region of Singapore. The 28-hectare beach park is one of the oldest coastal parks in Singapore, retaining the "kampung" or village atmosphere of the 1960s and '70s. Description The park is bounded by the sea on one side, opposite Pulau Ubin, and by Nicoll Drive and Changi Coast Road on the other. It stretches for about 3.3 km from Changi Point to Changi Ferry Terminal. History The Japanese occupation Changi Beach served as one of the killing grounds of Sook Ching massacre for the Japanese Imperial Army during the Japanese occupation of Singapore of the Second World War, where 66 Chinese male civilians were killed on the beach by the Japanese Hojo Kempei on 20 February 1942. Alstom Movia R151
The Alstom Movia R151 is the seventh generation electric multiple unit (EMU) rolling stock in operation on the existing North–South (NSL) and East–West (EWL) lines of Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system. It is manufactured by Changchun Alstom Railway Vehicles, a joint venture of Alstom and CRRC Changchun under Contract R151 as part of their Movia family of trains. The new rolling stock is set to progressively replace all of the C151s, C651s and C751Bs, all of which had been in service for at least 25 years when the R151s entered service in 2023. Goods And Services Tax (Singapore)
Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Singapore is a value added tax (VAT) of 9% levied on import of goods, as well as most supplies of goods and services. Exemptions are given for the sales and leases of residential properties, importation and local supply of investment precious metals and most financial services. Export of goods and international services are zero-rated. GST is also absorbed by the government for public healthcare services, such as at public hospitals and polyclinics. Subunit Vaccine
A subunit vaccine is a vaccine that contains purified parts of the pathogen that are antigenic, or necessary to elicit a protective immune response. Subunit vaccine can be made from dissembled viral particles in cell culture or recombinant DNA expression, in which case it is a recombinant subunit vaccine. A "subunit" vaccine doesn't contain the whole pathogen, unlike attenuated vaccine, live attenuated or inactivated vaccine, but contains only the antigenic parts such as protein subunit, proteins, polysaccharides or peptides. Because the vaccine doesn't contain "live" components of the pathogen, there is no risk of introducing the disease, and is safer and more stable than vaccines containing whole pathogens. Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine
The Novavax COVID-19 vaccine, sold under the brand names Nuvaxovid and Covovax, among others, is a subunit COVID-19 vaccine developed by Novavax and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations. Toa Payoh Bus Interchange
Toa Payoh Bus Interchange is an air-conditioned bus interchange located at Toa Payoh Town Centre, serving the town of Toa Payoh and Braddell. At the time of opening on 19 May 2002 by then Minister for Transport, Yeo Cheow Tong, it is the first air-conditioned bus interchange in Singapore, integrated within the Toa Payoh HDB Hub and built on top of Toa Payoh MRT station.
