The king of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is Jordan's head of state and monarch. He serves as the head of the Jordanian monarchy—the Hashemite dynasty. The king is addressed as His Majesty (). Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein ( ar, عبدالله الثاني بن الحسين , translit=ʿAbd Allāh aṯ-ṯānī ibn al-Ḥusayn; born 30 January 1962) is King of Jordan, having ascended the throne on 7 February 1999. He is a member of the Hashemite dynasty, who have been the reigning royal family of Jordan since 1921, and is considered a 41st-generation direct descendant of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Abdullah was born in Amman as the first child of King Hussein and his second wife, Princess Muna. As the king's eldest son, Abdullah was heir apparent until Hussein transferred the title to Abdullah's uncle, Prince Hassan, in 1965. Abdullah began his schooling in Amman, continuing his education abroad. He began his military career in 1980 as a training officer in the Jordanian Armed Forces, later assuming command of the country's Special Forces in 1994, eventually becoming a major general in 1998. Bisher Al-Khasawneh
Bisher Al-Khasawneh ( ar, بشر الخصاونة; born 27 January 1969) is a Jordanian politician and diplomat who is serving as the 43rd Prime Minister of Jordan and Minister of Defence since 12 October 2020. Al-Khasawneh was an ambassador of Jordan to Egypt, France, Kenya, Ethiopia, African Union, League of Arab States, and to UNESCO. He also served as Coordinator General and Director of the Peace Process and Negotiations Bureau in Jordan. He served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs between 2016 and 2017. He subsequently was Minister of State for Legal Affairs between 2017 and 2018. He served as the adviser to King Abdullah II for Communication and Coordination at The Royal Hashemite Court between April 2019 and August 2020. 2022 Aqaba Toxic Gas Leak
On 27 June 2022, a toxic gas leak occurred at the Port of Aqaba, Jordan, when a container carrying 25 tons of chlorine fell from a crane onto a docked ship and ruptured. The incident killed at least thirteen people and injured more than 265 people. Accident On 27 June 2022, 16:15 local time, a crane was loading one of several pressurized chemical storage containers onto the container ship ''Forest 6'' for export to Djibouti. The crane's cabling system failed, and one container, containing about of chlorine fell onto the ship and ruptured, causing the chemical to burst from the container. A cloud of bright, yellow gas spread throughout the port as people ran away. This accident caused thirteen deaths and 265 injuries at the port. 2022 Jordanian Protests
A series of protests began in Jordan on 15 December 2022, over rising gas prices. History The protesting workers, which include goods and passenger transport drivers, are demanding reduction in fuel prices and cancellation of special taxes on fuel derivatives. So far, one senior police officer has been killed after being shot in the head, and three more were killed during a raid carried out to arrest the suspects. One of the suspects, described as a "fighter", was killed. There have also been reports of anti-riot police throwing tear gas during the protests, and youths have clashed with police northeast of Amman. Protesters have staged in the Tafiyla neighborhood of Amman, where police have clashed with protesters saying anti-government slogans. Youths burned tires on a main highway between Amman and the Dead Sea, disrupting the traffic, and highways connecting Amman to Irbid and Karak have been shut down.
