2022 Edmonton Elks Season
The 2022 Edmonton Elks season was the 64th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 73rd overall. The Elks improved upon their league-worst record from 2021, but were eliminated from playoff qualification on October 8 following a loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Elks set a dubious record for most consecutive home losses when they lost for the 15th straight time at home on October 1, surpassing the Ottawa Rough Riders and their 14-game home losing streak from 1987 to 1988. The team finished winless at home for the second straight season and extended their CFL record to 17 consecutive home losses. The team's 2022 season was the first under general manager Chris Jones. West Division (CFL)
The West Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League (CFL), its counterpart being the East Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the West Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The five teams in the West Division are the BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Elks, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. There were also two now-defunct teams from the mid 1990s United States expansion of the CFL who played in the West Division. 1988 Ottawa Rough Riders Season
The 1988 Ottawa Rough Riders finished the season in fourth place in the East Division with a 2–16 record and failed to qualify for the post-season. In terms of winning percentage (0.111), this was the worst season the franchise had endured since the formation of the Canadian Football League. Additionally, it was the worst record for a Grey Cup host city team as Ottawa hosted the 76th Grey Cup this year. The Rough Riders, which prior to the start of the season promised their fans good things for the coming year, had dubbed the 1988 season "Super season '88". A punter (P) in gridiron football is a special teams player who receives the snap (gridiron football), snapped ball directly from the line of scrimmage and then Punt (gridiron football), punts (kicks) the football to the opposing team so as to limit any field position advantage. Ben Griffiths (born 17 September 1991) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). AFL career Griffiths was drafted by with the club's second selection and the 19th selection overall in the 2009 national draft. 2022 CFL Global Draft
The 2022 CFL Global Draft was a selection of non-Canadian and non-American players by Canadian Football League (CFL) teams that took place on May 3, 2022. It was the second CFL Draft that pools all of the global players together after previously having separate drafts for Mexican players and European players in 2019. 27 players were chosen from among eligible players following the CFL Combine in March. Similar to the previous year's draft, this was a snake draft with the even-numbered rounds being the reverse order of the odd-numbered rounds. Brock Sunderland (born November 11, 1979) was the General Manager of the Edmonton Elks (formerly known as the Edmonton Eskimos) in the Canadian Football League from 2017 until 2021. He won the Grey Cup as the Assistant General Manager of the Ottawa Redblacks in 2016. Previously, he was a college and pro scout with the New York Jets from 2007 to 2012. Jaime Elizondo is an American football and a Canadian football coach. Elizondo has had 25 years of coaching experience in both collegiate and professional levels, most recently serving as the head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach of the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League (CFL) during the 2021 CFL season. 2015 Grey Cup
The 103rd Grey Cup was a Canadian football game that was played on November 29, 2015 between the East Division champion Ottawa Redblacks and the West Division champion Edmonton Eskimos to decide the Canadian Football League (CFL) championship for the 2015 season. The game was played at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Shaw Communications was the presenting sponsor of the game; it was the first time in CFL history that the Grey Cup has been sponsored. The Eskimos won the contest 26–20 to claim their 14th Grey Cup championship in franchise history and first since 2005.
