2021–22 Brøndby IF Season
The 2021–22 Brøndby IF season was Brøndby IF's 41st consecutive season in top-division of the Danish football league, the 32nd consecutive in Danish Superliga, and the 56th as a association football, football club. Besides the Superliga, the club also competed in the 2021–22 Danish Cup, Danish Cup and this season's editions of the 2021–22 UEFA Champions League, UEFA Champions League and 2021–22 UEFA Europa League, UEFA Europa League. It is the third season with head coach Niels Frederiksen, after he replaced caretaker manager Martin Retov during the 2019–20 campaign. Brøndby entered this season as reigning Danish Superliga champions, having won the league title for the first time in 16 years in 2021. Brøndbyernes Idrætsforening (, usually abbreviated to Brøndby IF (), is a Danish professional Football club (association football), football club based in Brøndbyvester. Brøndby IF denotes the professional football section of Brøndbyernes Idrætsforening, which was founded on 3 December 1964 by a merger of the football clubs Brøndbyøster Idrætsforening (founded on 10 October 1928) and Brøndbyvester Idrætsforening (founded on 1 February 1909). Jens Martin Gammelby (; born 5 February 1995) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Danish Superliga club Silkeborg. Club career Silkeborg Born in Ikast, Denmark, Gammelby is a youth product from Silkeborg. Morten Wetche Frendrup (; born 7 April 2001) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder or full-back for club Genoa and the Denmark national team. Frendrup was born in Tuse and played youth football with Tuse IF and Holbæk B&I before starting his professional career with Brøndby IF, where he became the youngest player to debut for the club. Andreas Bruus (; born 16 January 1999) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Danish Superliga club AaB, on loan from club Troyes. He has also represented Denmark at youth international level. Career Brøndby Youth Born in Greve Strand, Bruus joined the Brøndby IF youth academy in 2005. Michael Lumb (; born 9 January 1988) is a Danish former professional footballer who played as a left-back. He is currently assistant coach of Avarta. Lumb began his career at AGF, where he made over 100 appearances before moving to Zenit Saint Petersburg in 2010. His time in Russia was marked by loan spells at Feyenoord, AaB, and SC Freiburg. Mathias Peter Greve Petersen (; born 11 February 1995) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Danish Superliga club Randers.
