2021 US World Team Trials (wrestling)
The 2021 United States World Team Trials for wrestling were held at the Pinnacle Bank Arena of Lincoln, Nebraska, from September 11 to 12, 2021. This event determined the representative of the United States of America for the 2021 World Championships at each weight class and style. Weight classes contested Due to the delay of the 2020 Summer Olympics that ended up taking place in August 2021, with the US Olympic Team Trials for wrestling taking place in April 2021, the 2021 US World Team Trials took place months later than the yearly event usually does, and the same applies to the 2021 World Championships, which will start on October 2. USA Wrestling announced on the 2021 World Team Selection Procedures that "The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Medalist, if competing at the same weight class, will receive the automatic selection to the 2021 World Team at that same weight." Yianni Diakomihalis
John Michael "Yianni" Diakomihalis (born April 11, 1999) is an American freestyle and folkstyle wrestler who competes at 70 kilograms. A two-time US National champion in freestyle, he formerly competed at 65 kilograms, where he was the 2022 World silver medalist, a two-time Pan American champion and a two-time U17 World champion, amongst other feats. While in college, Diakomihalis became the fifth four-time NCAA Division I champion in history out of Cornell University. Career High school Diakomihalis attended Hilton High School in Hilton, New York, along with his brother Greg, who would go on to become a five-time NYSPHSAA champion himself. In eight grade, he won the Division I state championship at 99 pounds, defeating eventual Cornell teammate Vito Arujau in the finals. Ben Provisor
Ben Provisor (born June 26, 1990) is an American wrestler. He won the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials at 74 kg GR, and competed at the 2012 Olympics. He also competed at the 2016 Olympics. Personal life Provisor is the son of musician Dennis Provisor, former keyboard player for the rock band The Grass Roots. He was married to wrestler Leigh Jaynes. He has one living child. Provisor attended SPASH high school in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Wrestling career Provisor is a three-time U.S. Open champion (2011, 2013, and 2018). Ildar Shavkatovich Hafizov (; ; born January 30, 1988) is an Uzbekistani-American Greco-Roman wrestler of Tatar heritage, who competes in the featherweight category (60 kg). 2011 Asian and 2021 Pan American Championships runner-up, 2023 Pan American Games gold medalist. Max Nowry
Max Emiliano Nowry (born March 16, 1990) is an American Greco-Roman wrestler. He is a three-time gold medalist at the Pan American Wrestling Championships. He has also competed in freestyle wrestling on a few occasions. Career In 2013, Nowry represented the United States at the Summer Universiade where he finished in 5th place in the Greco-Roman 55kg event. Mason Mark Parris ( ; born October 1, 1999) is an American freestyle and folkstyle wrestler who competes at 125 kilograms. Parris is a 2019 U20 World champion, and a 2023 Pan American Games gold medalist. He represented the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
