2021 Tour Des Alpes-Maritimes Et Du Var
The 2021 Tour des Alpes-Maritimes et du Var was a road cycling stage race that took place between 19 and 21 February 2021 in the French departments of Alpes-Maritimes and Var. The race was rated as a 2.1 event as part of the 2021 UCI Europe Tour and was the 53rd edition of the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes et du Var cycling race. Italian rider Gianluca Brambilla of won the race, with Canadian rider Michael Woods of in second and Brambilla's Dutch teammate Bauke Mollema in third. Mollema won the first stage, beating a reduced peloton in a sprint up the third ascent of the Col de Gourdon and taking the first leader's jersey. Woods, who had finished fourth on the first stage only one second behind Mollema, won on the short but steep final climb in Fayence on stage two with enough of a margin over Mollema, who had finished second, to take over the leader's jersey. 2021 UCI Europe Tour
The 2021 UCI Europe Tour was the 17th season of the UCI Europe Tour. The season began on 24 January 2021 with the Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana 1969 – Gran Premio Valencia and ended on 24 October 2021 with the Ronde van Drenthe. Throughout the season, points were awarded to the top finishers of stages within stage races and the final general classification standings of each of the stages races and one-day events. The quality and complexity of a race also determined how many points are awarded to the top finishers; the higher the UCI rating of a race, the more points were awarded. Greg Van Avermaet (born 17 May 1985) is a Belgian professional cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Considered one of the most versatile riders of modern cycling, Van Avermaet is a specialist of the classic cycle races, but has also won stages and the general classification in stage races, particularly when run on a hilly terrain, such as the 2016 Tirreno–Adriatico, and the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire. Fayence
Fayence (; oc, Faiença) is a commune in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in Southeastern France. In 2019, it had a population of 5,735. Fayence is one of a series of "perched villages" overlooking the plain between the southern Alps and the Esterel massif, which borders the Mediterranean Sea between Cannes and Saint-Raphaël. The village is located on the road to Mons, which later on joins the Route Napoléon linking Nice to Grenoble through the Alps. Some high-standing resorts have settled nearby the village in the recent years: the Domaine de Terre Blanche at Tourrettes and Domaine de Fayence attract a foreign clientele. Gourdon (; oc, Gordon) is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in southeastern France. Gourdon offers panoramic views. History and geography In the distant past, this isolated rock was used as a place of refuge and defence. Gourdon, as it appears to us today, gives a good example of a Feudal village. It is built on a peak with impressive slopes down to the river Loup. There is only one entrance, from which you can access the main street. In former times, it was defended by a simple and harmonious Roman gate, that had been demolished at the beginning of the 20th century. Biot (; oc, Biòt) is a small fortified medieval hilltop village in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur near Antibes, between Nice and Cannes. Many people come to Biot for its renowned cubist art museum of Fernand Leger as well as the winding cobbled lanes on the elevated fort. This village, that is now known for its ceramics and glassblowing, dates to prehistoric times. History For a long period prior to 154 BC, Celto-Ligurians ( the Oxybians and Deceates tribes) controlled the region.
